Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Adding a half a dozen teevee threads just moves us closer to TWoPness.

That's what I meant when I said that it seems like this proposal is really about reshaping the board.

And frankly, maybe some of my personal resistance to creating new show threads is that I for one *haven't* discovered a new obsession, and my suspicion is that creating a thread for it ain't gonna make it appear.

Bag the crypto. Say what is on your mind.

Gus, I counted 62. I could be off, but off by 190?

Holy crap.

t takes hammer to weird in-head counter

t tables examination of what post filter was at work during skim

Still, better than 32% of the posts in 500 seems significant.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

62 posts out of 500 would be 12.4%, wouldn't it?

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

See, someone needs to do some research and find out what percentage demanded the creation of other threads that purportedly overwhelmed Natter. I think I recall someone saying that's how LOTR was created, but I'm not sure about the others like Movies, Music, and Lit, etc.

Up with the sun

I don't think anyone is talking about adding half a dozen threads; it will depend on the poll results, but one or two, possibly three, seems more likey based on the discussion, and even that is far from certain. I can kind of understand that if you don't want new threads at all, one is as bad as ten, but I want to make sure no one thinks six new threads are being seriously proposed.

Movies and music were created more because they were lost in Natter than the other way around, P-C. Our bandwidth fears were less pronounced, and it was the days before voting, so people who really wanted them were able to lobby and get them started. I'm not sure about LotR, but I think ti was similar.

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

How many were Nip/Tuck related? Really. If we're going to go by what is talked about all the time, we'd need a, "I think I'm fat and ugly" thread, a "i really like my cat" thread, a "i hate my job" thread, and possibly a "FCM" thread.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Are we stagnating now? What are the signs?

I'm not sure what the signs of stagnation would be or how to quantify that. However, I do know I value the critical discussion that has been generated by Book Club, and that rich, analytical bent has been in shorter supply around the threads.

That's what I meant when I said that it seems like this proposal is really about reshaping the board.

See, but the board changes shape over time anyway. We're just making a conscious choice in this instance about what shape we might want to try. I think it's a mistake to see this as anything other than us adding a new thread for discussing a new show. We have other non-ME shows that we discuss. It doesn't have to be us rewriting the Constitution. We're trying this out.

Lost in particular seems to have a wide appeal. I'm finding the white font overwhelming such that I have to skip hundreds of posts to get to any Natter discussion. And then when I catch up to the show, it doesn't seem possible to enter the discussion.

I don't threadsuck nor bookmark - that's just not how I use the threads or pariticipate here.

Which is fine as long as everyone is being honest about it, but I get the feeling that some of us see this as a change and others are less comfortable with calling it that.

It doesn't have to be us rewriting the Constitution.

PS, you know how you hate it when folks use the term "psychosis" to refer to anything other than the DSMR definition? Well, I get nutty when people start using political metaphors to describe friggin' board culture. OF COURSE it's not like rewriting the Constitution because we aren't a government. I think we are all pretty much in agreement on that one, right?

What is even happening?

I think threadsucking and bookmarking are workable solutions. Just keep in mind that incorporating those methods will also change board culture.
