Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!
We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!
Lyra, if any threads are approved, I think we should wait 'til after sweeps to open the threads, too. And if a series looks sickly, we should probably wait 'til mid season.
As deep as the Firefly love is here, there were times (not so much now, because the film is coming) that I resent like hell that 13-16 hours of TV get 2 (and at one time 3) threads. Because it was Tim and Joss, and because the show so grabbed so many Buffistas, I get over it really quickly, but still... I would hate to see that, like with say Jack and Bobby. It could be here today, and gone tomorrow. I'd rather never have a thread, than have a thread for 13 episodes.

Wow. I thought it was pretty much a fait accompli that Firefly lay right in with our Joss/Minearverse mission statement. We can't agree on much, but I thought that was taken for granted that we will chafe at the bit and generate thousands of posts.
I'd feel a lot better if this proposal was about "this specific show has been generating a lot of discussion and I feel it warrants its own thread." As opposed to, "what shows would you like to see a thread for."
Well, but I think this came about specifically because
Lost
has been generating a lot of discussion in Natter lately, more so than any other new show so far. Am I wrong about that?

I think it does fit us. It has just been my personal itch, and again, it's only been at times. It hasn't been that we've had a thread for it, (and I know this is *my* issue, not *our* problem nor *our* bad thread decisions). It was an issue for me that we had two or three threads, when there were so few episodes, and when we were on a budget, so to speak.
My point in bringing it up has nothing to do with Firefly (may it live forever and ever) itself. My point is only that I'd like to make sure a general show (a non-ME show) is going to have a decent sized body of work, before we commit a thread to it. I'd rather we not open a show thread in October, only to have the show gone by January.

I'm in Kristen's corner.
eta: And I think it might be a little early to say that
Lost
needs it's own thread.
Actually my trouble with Firefly-show threads was (a) we created too many, too soon, and (b) we had difficulty repurposing on the fly to deal with the different speeds of episode-dissemination in different countries. (A) is just one of those "live and learn" things, and says to me that the 11th commandment is henceforth Thou Shalt Not Create A Show Thread Until Just Before First Airing.
(B) was kind of an odd situation, inasmuch as Furriners and downloaders were getting episodes, all at different speeds. I think the results we came up with -- making Firefly Spoilers act as UnAmericans And Downloaders Discussion for a limited period, and then moving that discussion back into regular Firefly when the DVDs came out, so that movie spoilers could take over Firefly Spoilers -- worked okay, but it took some inertia-fighting to make it happen.
I do agree with ita, that Firefly threads were inevitable, given the producers' names. But I think we could have created and managed those threads with a bit more control.
I'm less concerned about the number of episodes than of the volume generated. Otherwise we'd have an L&O thread, wouldn't we.
Those Firefly threads? Full up, and with lively, often on topic and on charter conversation, and that's what we're about.
Are we also about a Lost charter? I don't know. I do think, from a user-interface POV, we got too much going on. But that won't break anything, just make it ugly and a bit user-inefficient.

Hasn't board usage dropped significantly from this time in previous years because of no new M.E. shows? Or has the influx of new posters made up for it?

How do you mean that, ita?

That doesn't really change what the front page looks like, though. That's what I mean by user interface. It's been a bit unwieldy all along, and adding a cluster of related threads will underscore that.
