Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

I thought we were discussing wording the poll and including a general question about whether or not to create new threads at all. Where Allyson mentioned "inlcude a no new threads option" I took to mean in the poll. Then in response to amych's question, my response was in regard to creating a poll with the no new threads option, but also being able to voice show choices for the possibility that "yes" was the more popular answer to the thread question.

If "no new threads" is the polled preference, well, the show results are sort of moot.

ETA: If I said voting, I meant voting in the poll, so non-binding.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

How would spoilers be handled in these proposed TV threads?

If they're to be a thread per show, I'd say we use the standard NAFDA/if-it's-aired definition we had for Buffy, Angel, etc. No whitefonting, but no spoilers either. Maybe consider turning the old B/A spoilers thread into a more general spoiler zone -- I miss that subcommunity in the absence of new dirt, and my sense of the spoiler-ho gestalt has always been that most companions are good with being spoiled on multiple shows, including ones they don't watch.

I could be wrong on that, of course.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

I'm not trying to introduce a new idea, but I'd like a Showtime Sunday thread. I think Showtime shows Dead Like Me, QaF, Huff and The L Word in specific, rotate, so that there are always new episodes. So if they had one thread, we could talk about whichever show was airing at the time and it would be sort of like a show specific thread, but not. I'd love to talk about DLM in particular, think I'd like to watch Huff, and enjoy the L Word. I haven't yet gotten into QaF, but I know others have.

Wow. What made sense to me a half an hour ago is now completely confusing. I thought the poll was to determine interest in threads for TV shows. So, a vote for "No new threads for TV shows" makes sense as an option alongside the various show thread options. But I don't think the poll results should then immediately be used to create threads (should the poll results be supportive of new show threads).

I think, if the poll shows sufficient interest in creating new show threads, then the determination of which shows get threads should be taken to a vote. This would then give people who voted "No new threads" a chance to at least have a say in which new threads are created. I think this takes care of amych's issue, right?

Ann, that's a ferret.

I agree with Proposal 1, though not for the reason mentioned. MEverse is (sadly) not giving us anything new. No new spoilers, no new quotes, and no NAFDA making a Previously necessary.

They aren't necessary, and they should be closed.

I'm reluctant to vote for a thread for a new show but could change my mind if there's a lot of support for a specific show. Right now, I'm not seeing that.

Up with the sun

Maybe one choice should be: No new threads

Definitely. Otherwise, it's hardly a vote at all.

What do you think of Burrell's suggestion?

I think it's a good idea -- I can see why agreeing on what the threads would be about before we agree to make them would make sense. My one concern is whether we would effectively be asking people to vote twice on the same thing, but my original proposal would also have two votes in it, just in a different order. I also like Cindy's multi-part ballot.

If I wanted to do a poll first, could a stompy set it up on b.org, or would I have to do it in LiveJournal/Mister Poll?

How would spoilers be handled in these proposed TV threads?

I was thinking of them as NAFDA zones. I'd prefer to leave any discussion of new spoiler threads for another proposal, if that's okay. (I feel like adding multiple new show threads is already a test for the server, and I don't want to talk about multiplying the impact with a spoiler thread or threads until we know it can handle it. if I'm wrong, Stompies, please tell me.)

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

If I wanted to do a poll first, could a stompy set it up on b.org, or would I have to do it in LiveJournal/Mister Poll?

If there's a bullshit consensus to first do an informal non-binding poll, then I'll set it up here, but I'd suggest that we put your current official proposal on hold first. Otherwise, we'll be rushing immediately from the results of the poll to an official vote with little time to discuss the results in between.

Up with the sun

Thanks, Jon. Let me sleep on it, and I'll look at the feedback here and make a decision in the morning.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

1. That to reduce server load, Angel Spoilers, Previously, and Angel Quotables be closed and archived as soon as is feasible;

Sure, once deathmatches are done.

2. That the Buffistas hold a poll to see which, if any, TV shows have sufficient poster interest to deserve a thread. The format of the poll and number/percentage of votes needed to determine "sufficent interest" will be decided through discussion, as will the upper limit on the number of threads we can create.

I agree with Jon that 3 and 4 should be put off until we see what the results of this are.

A somewhat related thought... if people are wanting to discuss Lost and Alias would it be unreasonable to put them in a shared thread? They are both J.J. Abrams shows, right? (And I am someone who watches one but not the other.)

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I think that's a logical grouping (as long as Syd doesn't end up on any deserted islands and confuses the issue).

Do we want to look at grouping any shows (in groups of 2 or 3), or does that confuse the issue?
