I'm with you Deena on that last part. It's just... didn't we say that we would have a discussion for so many days and then voting would start?
'Get It Done'
Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!
We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!
Yes Heather-- tis is what I am torn about.
I feel like by posting I am making an executive decision to do it this way that I have no right to.
By not posting, I feel like I am a) going back on what we said we would do and my word to post it.
Also, I really need to go to bed.
Yes, we did, but I'm not seeing a bunch of people dashing in here saying, "Where's the ballot? I want it now! Let's vote PV!" Or "Let's have a runoff!"
So, who made Sophia carry the world, erm, phoenix? That's too much responsibility for something that has people fractious already.
As Jon notes, what would've been considered a Buffista consensus was reached about trying the preferential voting. I don't know how else we're going to use this space to craft a ballot without using that kind of consensus.
Nonetheless, I don't think we can go forward with the ballot quite yet with this kind of disagreement. So sit on it until tomorrow night Sophia, I think.
Let's make sure everybody is heard. If there's a strong preference for doing the runoff we should do that. Like Jon, I heard a strong preference for trying the preferential voting, but let's make sure this discussion is not pushed through because of who happens to be online at this time.
Sophia, I think you should go to bed and then we should decide, somehow, by noon tomorrow, and post it at noon. Sure, that's not what we voted, but obviously, we haven't yet decided, despite the arbitrary number of days -- so maybe that's something about the last vote that isn't going to work as we'd hoped.
I feel for you doll.
Perhaps we can ask for any last words on it?
or midnight, I'm cool with that. If people want to know why it's not up, they'll come here and find me being a bossy pants. (Though I hope they don't think that.)
OK-- I was just going to make an executive decision to post in Press that there would not be a vote tonight and go to bed.
So I am glad to hear my instincts were on...
I don't think you're being bossy Deena. And, I think it's nice and curteous that you think we should wait until people feel better about the ballot.
billy-- I think the announcement in Press doesn't have to include the text of the ballow. Those are ballot instructions. (Jon is doing ballot, I am doing the announcement).
Fair enough. I'm good with that.
Do you think the whole thing should go in the Press, and more importantly, do you think we should wait?
I think if we've voted on these time limits, we should probably stick to them. I can't really point to much of a mandate in how to present this particular vote (well, I guess we do have an old-style consensus level, but I don't know how to treat that now), but there is at least a mandate to get things moving on time. But I recognise this is hardly a perfect way forward either, and I don't think it'll be a serious problem if there's a delay.
I don't mind trying PV, but I also don't want to alienate people who hate it for whatever reason. It's not worth that.
Yeah. Right now I'm just hoping one option gets over half the primary vote, and it all turns out to be a non-issue this time round.
