Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!
We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!
I'm strongly against a new TV thread not because I'm antiproliferation, but because general threads make the conversationunweildy. I'd rather see show specific threads (though that will get cumbersome fast... so it would be board resource dependent) because I want to talk about that show specifically and don't want to wade through conversations of everything on the show grid.
Given that, I kinda like Steph's idea of loose theme topics. Though, since Smallville became rolled up with other sci-fi shows, I find myself irritated with using the thread (or maybe it's with Smallville itself) and read it less and less.
Did anyone come up with a solution for the spoiler policies of a general TV thread anyway?
It would have to be just like Natter, wouldn't it? Big with the whitefont.
If I were Queen of the World, I'd say that people who don't want to be spoiled for a show should avoid the thread until they've seen it. But then I'm kind of bugged by whitefont, which other people obviously don't mind.

It's not a perfect solution, but the alternatives are (1) no TV threads, wherein Natter gets taken over by TV discussion, or (2) a thread for every. single. show. on. TV.
Recommendations only seems like you would expect maybe one or three posts from each Buffista, "here's my list", followed by some "me too"s.
A place to find discussion of shows Buffistas are watching would be great. Or, "What Lyra Jane said."

I'm anti general TV because of the volume issues -- I think we're spending money we don't quite have.
My pragmatic objection is wondering at the use of a thread that's very whitefonted, or unavailable to me because I'm always time-shifted on one show or another.
However, we may be veering offtopic, unless Betsy wants to change her proposal in this direction.

Yeah, if it's All Whitefont, All The Time, I'm personally not going to go to the trouble..
Boxed Set doesn't whitefont much, and that seems to work okay. Limited number of shows, though.
I just got techno-bunnied about an idea that a thread might filterable by topic, building on the recent filter work. I could select a "The Shield" view of a thread, for instance, and not have to get any "The Bachelor Might Be Gay" on my eyes.

And if it were just a one TV show per thread thing, I could see that. But, if this turns out to be a general TV thread, there are going to be very few hours in the day when West Coasters or people who taped can frequent the thread. I can't go in to talk about the QaF that I just watched because there's a non-whitefonted discussion of the Alias that doesn't air for another two hours here.
Out of curiosity, am I the only one who thinks Boxed Set doesn't work very much for them as a user? I regret my proposal to combine them and would take it back if I could.
That's my fear of a general TV thread. And even themed ones. That they will still be too unweildy.
