Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

OK, Do I remember correctly that Sean volunteered to count votes? If so, ita needs to set up the mail forwarding. ita -- once Sean confirms, can you set it up ASAP so that we can test it out before voting starts? IIRC, we had trouble with that during the last vote.

Aimée -- What time would you like voting to start tomorrow? If you want to start voting during the day tomorrow, I'd like to have the final ballot text tonight because I can't guarantee that I'll be able to work on this while I'm at my job. If you don't want voting to start until the evening, then you can get the final text to me anytime tomorrow.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Assuming the profile address is okay, votes are pointing to Sean.

No, I don't think I will - me, quoting Captain Steve Rogers, to all of 2020

I'm not sure Aimee will be able to give you the vote text tonight. Her plane gets in at 9, we'll be home 9:30-9:45. But I'm sure she'll have it for you early tomorrow.

And yes, I volunteered to count votes. So by all means, fire away.

"When the world's run by fools it's the duty of intelligence to disobey." Martin Firrell

If it's not too late to add my two cents..?

BTW these are just points, I think the important arguments have pretty much been made.

From the perspective of a different time-zone (and different TV shows and series) it is often difficult to participate in many of the interesting and clever socio-political discussions that pop up in various places here on the board, especially if boredom, displeasure or disgruntlement has already been expressed and the thread moved on. I do understand that it happens with other topics as well, that most things come around again and that people can still pick up points hours and days later, but with the contentious nature of politics it often seems better to err on the side of caution.

As someone who seemed to provoke a couple of the earlier political skirmishes I can see the concern about conflict and unpleasantness and I have no real experience of any other boards. I also understand the rationale regarding the pop-culture context and history of the board but I can't help but wonder how many of your new TV shows we'll ever get to see. Yes there's still music and movies and books but ... it just seems a shame when there are less things to share, fewer lines of communication. Oh, and that bit that Victor said about politics and pop culture being entwined, I agree with that too.

So yeah, I'd like to see a politics thread where things can be discussed at greater depth or length without upsetting those around them, where the debate can proceed at a more thoughtful pace moving between ideology and trends, theory and reality, and where ideas and knowledge can be shared and debated.

But I really can't argue against any of the concerns.
