I'm trying to get some perspective on how threads have grown around here. How did we end up adding Music, Movies, and LofR threads?
Were these done to move those topics out of other threads because of too much traffic? Groundswell of interest? I wasn't here, and for me at least, it's helpful to know historically why b.org has added threads like that.
I think LOTR thread was created because it was taking over the Movies thread.
I think LOTR thread was created because it was taking over the Movies thread.
That must have been from WX or TT, because on Phoenix the LOTR thread predates the movie thread.
I proposed the LotR thread here because it would take over natter.
Ahh... I knew it was because it was taking over another thread. thanks for clarifying!
LotR was taking over EVERYTHING.
LotR was taking over EVERYTHING.
I felt a growing threat in my pants.

Not going to touch this one.

Heh. Movies got added pretty easily. I had to lobby hard for a Music thread, because the anti-proliferationistas had started to take a stand.
Which is why we don't have a general TV thread to discuss other shows. Though personally I feel kind of constrained, and wish I had a place to talk about something like...Justice League or Adult Swim. So some minor resentment that we've got a Farscape/due South/Smallville thread which has become the stealth Stargate thread.
There's an odd combination of denial and hand-waving ("This is NOT a genre TV Hoyay slanted thread. Just the shows listed. Okay, Jack is a woobie...") and then it's scattered in a weird mash across the threads. Wonderfalls in Minearvearse, whitefonted OC discussion in Natter. Some Justice League talk in Jossiverse in Other Media (the default Comics thread, though again - not listed as such).
It is not, however, a big deal to me. But I get cognitive dissonance from the obvious interest in focused discussion of other shows and the continued pressure to spread it around somehow.
