Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Brenda and Jon, I'm still waffly. I guess I feel the option of not doing anything is the default vote no. So I'm looking for a something that makes sense, is compromisey but not terrible.

My big stance at this point is that I'd like anything on a housekeeping ballot to be precisely that: cleaning and consolidating. Not creating.

It's like cleaning at my house (well, if it ever happened). The goal is to pare down the clothes and the shoes, not go and buy more. So I am strongly against including anything on this ballot that CREATES new threads. I'd rather we close old ones or combine new ones through a close the old-two-and-open-one-combo-thread idea.

I do NOT want to create a de facto general TV thread.

I agree Kat. I think that's the way to go. If the vote took place right now, I'd vote against the DS/SV/F consolidation, but by all means put the question on the ballot.

I think the General TV posts are already taking up server room. They're just scattered in 10 different threads, instead of consolidated.

I feel that I have already explained this issue as best I can. I don't think I have anything further to offer on the subject. Maybe someone else has a better way of explaining it.

Lyra Jane, the way I understand it and have observed it is that with each new thread that is created, we invite more conversation. So the ten places across the board where TV is being talked about means that it's less conversation because, frankly, people can't find it.

You created or proposed the original natter thread. Since it's inception, there has been way more natter there. Has a dedicated natter thread really cut down on the natter elsewhere, especially bitches? No. Instead, there is no an innersanctum for the natter.

In consolidating threads, I'm not wanting to invite MORE talk per se. I'm hoping to have the talk less spaces for the talk to take place.

Do you honestly believe that a TV thread would cut down on overall board use? Because I couldn't disagree more strongly with that.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I for one wouldn't be any more tempted to post in a DS/S/F thread than I am to post in the individie ones, but then again, I seem to be in a minority. If combining seems to be problematic, perhaps it makes more sense to delete them, or put each up for an individual vote delete/keep. At this point, how many active participants do they have?

Also, I just want to confirm, it seems like most of the ficcers would be fine with combining the fic writing threads & keeping the fic discussion thread separate. Is that correct?

I like this idea.

About ten each, but Smallville is more active during the season, and as mentioned, I expect it to get more active when it's the lead-in show for Angel, with a former ME writer on staff.

And now I'm starting to feel like one of the Atlantic Canadians stumbling across a proposal that we don't need that thread.

Mucho apologies, Plei. Not trying to make anyone uncomfortable, it's just several of the thread denizens of Smallville and Farscape have said they'd miss it, but would be okay if it was gone. That's why I thought it was fair to suggest it.

I honestly do anticipate a jump in its traffic, and I think some of the main in-season posters aren't on the board much at the moment, it being summer and all.

I *DO* want to see some consolidation of the Buffy threads, but I don't think that the existing non-Buffy threads should really be touched at the moment.
