To be honest, the whole option of bumping Previously ticks me off a little.
I was going to ask, because I don't really go into the thread, what is the purpose of Previously? I don't understand why one can't discuss syndicated episodes in the main thread. I'd be very happy to have a denizen of Previously explain to me why it is so different so that I can better understand why that difference should be preserved.
And since it's all about me and my comfort zone. . .
Wait, wait, wait... You mean this is not about me and my comfort zone?
I've been going about this all wrong...

Silly Sean. At least now you've seen the error of your ways. Under normal circumstances, I'd have to take you out right about now. Thank God you're pretty.

My understanding is that it was started to keep talk about the syndicated eps from drowning out talk of new eps when Buffy 1st went into syndication.

Possibly also to allow discussion of Buffys past for non-NAFDA bods, though I don't recall if that was a motivation for the thread.

If that's the case, it certainly doesn't stop folks from discussing syndicated eps in the Buffy thread.

Ah.
Thank God you're pretty.
Ain't that the truth?

Those are good reasons, though they're both moot now.

No, but when the syndicated eps first started airing, the discussion was fast and furious, and followed the airing schedule pretty closely. I suspect the same thing will happen with Angel. Once they've run through the whole shebang once or twice, it'll probably die down and the thread won't be as needed. But until then, I think we'll do well to keep it.
I have serious concerns about what the addition of a new thread is going to do to our resource usage. I'm already worried about what's going to happen in the fall with the threads we currently have.
Just thinking back to last year at this time though, won't the fact that we've now got one ME show and one big syndication run mean that the load is lightened compared to when we had three ME shows and the new syndication schedule? That said, I'm in agreement with those who would err on the side of caution.
Allyson's Minear proposal basically post-dated the thread - couldn't we do that here? Work out whether people want a TV thread and how it will function, but delay implementation until Kristen gives us the OK? We could also use the time delay to hammer out some of the details as to how it work, which do seem to be more complicated than was first apparent.
(partial x-post from Bureaucracy)
Looks like my proposal both jumped the gun and jump-started the discussion. I do think now is a good time for housecleaning, before the new season starts...we've got a month and change to figure out the re-org, the board load, whether we need fund-raising (always yes), etc.; really not all that much time.
I will withdraw my proposal for now, but I think we are going to have to address the non-ME-TV idea...there's a lot of TV talk here, and even if I *can* discuss shows elsewhere, I like to discuss them here also as this is where the cogent analysis and good snark reside. At the very least, if I need to compare something to Buffy, you guys know what I'm talking about.
My technical question is whether the number of posts will change with the addition of a new thread? If I want to ask about TV-something, wouldn't I ask about it in Natter or Bitches or DueSouth in the absence of a TV thread?
...and I think I just answered my own question: sometimes, but not often. The conversation and focus is too fluid in non-dedicated threads. Also, the new membership that a new thread might attract and keep.
Raquel's TV thread proposal = withdrawn.
Just tell me who I should PayPal for our own server.
Kat's proposal as posted in Bureaucracy:
Since thread creation is off the plate, I have a proposal for thread consolidation.
I propose that we begin some minor housekeeping. What gets consolidated is open to debate, but I would like to have an official discussion followed by a vote.
Here is what I am initially proposing:
1. The Buffista Corp thread gets closed. Bless its Cafe Press heart.
2. At some point, post-death match that the Buffy quotable thread be closed.
3. The Previously thread will be repurposed for Angel.
4. Due South, Smallville and perhaps Farscape will be consolidated in some way.
