Absolutely. The reason it was tossed at me was because I asked -- how will one know if one's information is news or a spoiler?
I think that's very important, and that's why I did stuff like as Plei if she'd be willing to vet info.
I've skipped everything since this post (except managed to see a buffista has genital warts - again... *sigh*) but...
This is why I am asking if you're asking. The websearch suggestion, while kind and thoughtful, wasn't the answer. And I kinda thought that was proven way back when it was first made to you, and you first tested it. Forget the websearch, please. When you're trying to verify something, check the official site's cast page (which I realize doesn't work now, but that's not typical) or ask in the thread if anyone more spoiled than you can answer a question - not in the thread. You asked Plei if she could be the go to girl, and she said, well, sure, but word it differently, in that it's more convenient (or something) to say ask as spoiled person. Asking where to verify in spoilers lite was also thrown out. And yet you keep coming back to this. Hasn't it been answered enough yet? Are you waiting for a particular answer, because that's what it's starting to feel like.
That's all this line of enquiry has every been about -- the existing def is very verifiable. I'd like any replacement to be as nice and tight and neat.
How? You can't just order up a promo on your TV (well maybe you can, because you have TiVO and you'd know when they run. Me, I'd be doing websearches, checking the official site, and asking people if the promos ran, yet. And if we get this change, people will have to do web searches, check the official site, and ask people if there's been an official announcement). How would your well-meaning but not-in-the-know person go about verifying something they heard from a from a friend? It's the same process.
Elena - if people didn't say "no" to a virgins thread, would you find it a safe haven during the times between spoilers were allowed in NAFDA, or are you rejecting it wholesale? If you wouldn't find it a safe haven, would you find it ghettoizing and isolating?
If you would find it ghettoizing and isolating, can you put yourself in the shoes of the average poster, who is neither as spoiler houndish as say Plei, nor a spoiler virgin like you, and think how that person must feel about having to go into spoilers or spoilers lite and just to talk about stuff that they consider news, and that they consider it news is in part, because it's every bit as official as a televised promo?
ita again and from much earlier - I still don't understand why we can't keep casting news out of Bitches, keep casting news in its show specific thread, if the Bitches denizens agree to it, that is? Why couldn't we keep it safe for Trudy, Elena and other non-cast-wanting-to-know Bitches?
Okay, really, the policy is not about how spoiled a Buffista is allowed to get. And you're making it sound like it is.
It's not?
I mean, it's certainly about how spoiled a Buffista should get in the course of reading the non-spoiler topics on the board. That's why there's a spoiler policy at all, to define that. Right?
I suppose it wouldn't be as easy as re-purposing Angel Spoilage Lite?
Currently:
Spoilage Lite: Angel
[NAFDA] The place for casting and other vague spoilers for Angel.
Why not:
Spoilage Lite: Angel
[NAFDA] The place for whitefonted speculation, casting and other vague spoilers for Angel. (Place s before line to whitefont)
With whitefont for everything until the official announcements are made, or commercials start appearing.
Meanwhile, we can close or suspend Spoilage Lite: Buffy
This is an argument about what makes the most Buffistas happy, which can only be solved by voting...
...the other argument is whether this can actually be voted upon. Need to discuss argument two before one can happen. Keerect?
Okay, really, the policy is not about how spoiled a Buffista is allowed to get. And you're making it sound like it is.
No, but the spoiler policy does dictate how spoiled a Buffista
will
get if they go in a NAFDA thread. If the spoiler tolerance increases to include stuff like the WB cast list and announcement, etc, I'd get too spoiled for my own tolerance and would be unable to participate because my enjoyment of the show would decrease.
I've just caught up and thought I'd throw my .02 in.
I don't think I've ever caught a promo except the headless Lorne one, which really annoyed the crap out of me. I just don't watch enough or the wrong things, I guess (or the right amount/the right things). Until this board, I didn't know the names of the cast members (other than SMG and DB, maybe) and so my HSQ was not spoiled by credits. In fact, most of the time, the rolling credits is my time to do a last tuck into bed/get a drink of water/feed the cat/lock down the house prowl. I never thought they were important. It took me 2 days to figure out that the previous reference to JAR refers to the actor who plays Gunn. If I'm wrong, don't tell me.
However, the show is not as important to me, now, as this board, so I'd rather my enjoyment of the show be somewhat lessened than that a substantial population of this board whose posts I enjoy, have their enjoyment substantially lessened.
If this passes, I like Kristen's idea of the press announcements being the standard, since that's a clearly defined standard.
I like the idea of keeping this in show threads rather than just any NAFDA thread.
If another thread is started, it ought to include Spoiler Fic as well as talk about the show, but then I'd become a spoilerho just to read it.
Okay, really, the policy is not about how spoiled a Buffista is allowed to get. And you're making it sound like it is.
It's not?
The spoiler policy is about what we can post. Not about how spoiled we can get. If I want to go to spoiler sites or camp out in Joss's back yard, our spoiler policy doesn't actually dictate whether I can or can't.
Just because our spoiler policy says we can't post about something until it's been promoed doesn't mean that all the advance info we're allowed to know can be from the promo.
I'm just going to stand by Cindy and nod.
Just because our spoiler policy says we can't post about something until it's been promoed doesn't mean that all the advance info we're allowed to know can be from the promo.
Ah. No, of course not - misunderstanding on my part.
Daniel makes a lovely and sane point.
