Voting Discussion: We're Screwing In Light Bulbs AIFG!

We open it up, we talks the talk, we votes, we shuts it down. This thread is to free up Bureaucracy for daily details as we hammer out the Big Issues towards a vote. Open only when a proposal has been made and seconded according to Buffista policy (Which we voted on!). If this thread is closed, hie thee to Bureaucracy instead!

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I'm okay with the idea of honoring one of our own. I'm just not okay with the idea of honoring one of our own with a thread.

Different strokes, I guess, because I feel exactly the opposite -- it's precisely because I consider Tim to be a Buffista, not an honorary Buffista, or a VIP who drops by, or somesuch, that I want him to have a thread. Same as I'd want a Scrappy thread, or a Victor thread, if they hit the screenwriting jackpot.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Same as I'd want a Scrappy thread, or a Victor thread, if they hit the screenwriting jackpot.

And the ita thread, should someone decide that yes, ita deserves her own show.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Personally, I doubt we'll be discussing the contents of Tim's fridge. But it's a fair concern, I think.

I'm betting there's goat cheese. And probably beer.

And the ita thread, should someone decide that yes, ita deserves her own show.

I think I decided this years ago, but that's another discussion... (:

I totally agree with all the things people have said about Tim, and most of the reasons for giving him a thread. And I think any way to honor him on this board is more than deserved. But I'm concerned about how much conversation there will be to sustain a thread just for Tim. And, imo, a struggling, empty thread with Tim's name on it is not going to be much of an honor.

Correct me if I'm wrong, because I am still new here, but didn't many of the threads get created because conversation on certain topics seemed to merit their own thread? I admit to not reading every post on this board, but I haven't seen overwhelming discussion about Tim, beagles or Wonderfalls on Natter or on the show threads and other than the virtuous idea of giving props to a Buffista and a creative genius, is a thread really necessary at this time?

I would humbly suggest that we start with an alum thread, and if the Tim talk dominates we could spin off his own thread. And an alum thread is still a very appropriate forum to talk about Tim and his projects without it getting swallowed up in Natter or FF or Angel.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Someone else earlier pointed out that very little discussion is restricted around here, beyond reasons of NAFDA and the occasional nattering in Site threads. If most of us vote for the thread that has been suggested, but do it because what we want is the thread that hasn't been suggested, isn't the thread pretty much going to become the unsuggested one?

But no one seems to want this "I Love Tim as a Person, Screw his Work!" Thread. In fact, people seem to be either very strongly against it or to consider the suggestion so off-base as to discount it. So again, I don't think there's a strong connection between the concern you raise and the point I was trying to make.

In fact, IIRC, there were some comments made earlier that we shouldn't even have to vote on this, or that the idea of voting on it would be some sort of an insult to Tim. This bothers me.

I think that ANY new thread should be discussed before it's begun. Including this one. But that's just me.

Up with the sun

Okay, this is where I am:

On my own, I don't see the point of a Tim thread, am likely to vote against it, and probably won't post there because all I would have to say is "wait, did Tim write that?".

In terms of thread proliferation, though, I I know I've said (and believe) that if even 5 people want a thread and will post there, and it isn't impossible for tech reasons, they should have it. And it's clear that more than 5 people want a dedicated place to talk about Tim's works. So in that sense, I hope the thread is a success.

And I think our next 2 votes should be a)cleaning up the Buffy/Firefly threads and b)starting a general ME alumni thread. Not necessarily in that order.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

Seems to me, Tim's a Buffista and he does good work, and lots of Buffistas want to talk about it. Rather than a general alum thread, or trying to control what, particularly, is posted in the thread, wouldn't it be perfectly okay to have a Tim thread, but also, if there is any downtime or the conversation rolls that way, talk about other alum stuff in there if someone wants to? I'm not really seeing the problem with this thread idea as long as the bandwidth will support its existence.

This is also one of my problems, Wolf, and it's why I would rather we started an alum thread and broke out Tim if necessary. But it seems like the current proposal is to honor Tim now.

Nobody

(I'm all for cleaning up the BtVS threads. Shouldn't the Firefly threads wait 'til the UnAms are done with them?)
