To commemorate a past event, you kill and eat an animal. It's a ritual sacrifice, with pie.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Happy Belated Birthday, Steph!

There is definitely something wrong when it is cooler where my parents are in FL than it is here in the DC area. Temperatures around 100, and humidity so high that it feels like trying to breathe soup out side. Luckily AC in my house and in my car work.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Aw, man. I saw a notice about a "Dutch Brothers Development" in my city and tried look it up, which I was unable to do, I still don't know what that means. But I stumbled across a map of approved developments in the city and there are many that I had no idea about! A lot of green space getting built over. Which I am a little bummed about, especially the green spaces that I regularly walk passed and enjoy, but we do need more housing and warehouses are at least potentially employers, so I am willing to tamp that down for the greater good (it's not ALL the green space, after all) BUT there's a "warehouse/logistics building space" on a field that I have watched fill with water every spring for the last 13 years, thinking with satisfaction that no one in their right mind will build there because obviously it will flood. Those vernal pools fading into fields full of purple flowers gave me a lot of joy. So that's depressing.

Dutch Brothers is a coffee chain in the PNW…

Yeah, I suppose we are probably getting a Dutch Bros stand, or whatever they call it, but there's one not very far away and I can't think of a good spot for one in town so I'm curious where it will go. Or if it's actually something else. The thing I saw was pretty cryptic.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I am on my way to dinner!

Epic, that’s so rough and unfair and basically not at all in order. Especially so soon post birthday.

But I must admit “ass over teakettle into a cypress bush” has a certain lyrical charm.

Woo dinner!

Yay dinner for Brenda!!

I am proud I made it to the gym, even if I only did half of one of the three exercises I was doing. I am still sore from other stuff!

Ok I’m supposed to go camping next weekend (for this dancing camping thing) and I don’t really want to cook food and try to clean, while camping. Especially just for me. Who has food suggestions? I’ll have a cooler that is strong. I’m thinking pb&j, a cold quinoa/bean/avocado salad I like, maybe yogurt and granola for breakfast? Any other ideas? And obviously lots of snacks.

Our wings are not tired.

Slowly getting my act together to go north. My son has his electric back finally after 3 days. The record breaking heat didn't help. He spent a lot of time in his car.

It will be hard to say bye to my siblings. In particular my brother, who is still in the hospital but may be moved to rehab tomorrow.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Hello lovely people, I somehow haven't been on the board in over a week?!?!

Shir, I continue to think of you and Nilly and hope you stay safe.

I am working from home today, but officially I am now meant to be in-office 5 days a week. All of the NY-based people in my org have been moved into a new office to make room for RTO5, and the new office, bluntly, sucks balls. Rumor is that it's a short-term lease only and we'll all be moving again in 2 years but UGH.

Both kids graduated from their respective schools last week, leaving me with one each college and high school freshmen. And Dylan is officially An Adult! Whaaaaat???

NYC is supposed to be a balmy 96F today, slightly down from yesterday's high of The Literal Surface Of The Fucking Sun. When I got in my car after work yesterday the temp reading was 110 outside.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

When I got in my car after work yesterday the temp reading was 110 outside.

Ugh!

Congrats to Dylan and Aeryn for leveling up!

Boo on the crappy in-office-ness.

I got up at 8 and took my niece Crystal out for coffee and a walk in the Panhandle.

Now we're headed to breakfast at Zazie.
