Natter 78: I might need to watch some Buffy for inspiration
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place.
Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
This weekend, my family got to experience the full range of Christmas-related theater (featuring main characters who fall asleep and have Christmas-related dreams) - on Friday, we went up to Beacon to see How David Lynch Stole Christmas, an immersive/experimental David Lynch-themed Christmas Carol and then last night we saw a very traditional (but lovely!) Nutcracker. I wish the David Lynch show was traveling or around for longer because I think many Buffistas would have loved it!
We also ate exceptionally well yesterday. I made this Everything Salmon with Caper Sauce with asparagus and latkes and while the rest of us were at the ballet, Dylan made Yorkshire Puddings and creme anglais for dessert! (He cooked the puddings in duck fat left over from Thanksgiving and they were AMAZING. Serving them for dessert might be nontraditional but I'm not at all mad about it.)

Oooh, both sound fantastic!
I woke up to an absolute downpour which discouraged running, but now it's stopped and I'm sorry I ate breakfast already. But I was hungry!
I did a shit ton of online shopping yesterday which immediately got my debit card flagged by my bank. C'mon! It's not a red flag that I'm buying items for $60.
Tomorrow I have to jaunt over to Sausalito to do my expedited Passport, but I have everything lined up. I just need to double check everything today and I'll have a new Passport before 2025.
Dang, that menu sounds delish to me!!
I do not want to be working but I especially don’t want to be doing all my usual weekly things PLUS the things people are freaking out about because they realized it has to happen early this week or nobody will do anything about it until January.
I do hope I had trenchant commentary, Hec. It's always good when past me turns out not to have been stupid.
IJWTS it is weird to come here on Monday morning and realize that not only have I not been posting from my phone all weekend I actually was not reading. It's weird because I guess I have been having mental conversations with y'all? Maybe my effort to try and follow bluesky is confusing me. I don't have any illusion that I will keep up with it in any meaningful way, but I'm trying to get used to checking in on it with some regularity
Was not as online as usual because I spend I went to the annual holiday tea at the local city museum with my mom on Saturday and ended up hanging out with the folks all day and having dinner. And hibernated yesterday, what with the rain and cold and having been social although I did not realize I was hibernating quite that thoroughly
That salmon looks like something I will now try, yum!
Friend's open house yesterday was fun. This is one of the four of us who go out the b-day dinners and have know each other since our early twenties working at the same law firm. I still boggle that this group found each other so randomly and stayed connected lo' these 35 years hence. Lucky, is what.
-t, you just reminded me about bluesky!
To share better health news - Scans of my bones look much better than they feel! Age ranking at 111%-137% of bones my age, so better than most. Not all the pictures are in but the nicest line so far was "fall risk not calculated because scores above -1"
So I guess I can climb all the ladders without risk of breaking stuff when I fall! (note that I have no plans to climb ladders)

Well, you were agreeing with me so I thought you sounded brilliant.
Rain rain rain all day. Since I've set up my Major Task for tomorrow morning I've mostly faffed off, and I just made myself a very delicious hot steak sandwich so I should be just logy enough for therapy.
Key element in steak sandwich ease of composition: Trader Joe's Sliced Sirloin. It's precooked but fairly rare so when you heat it up it's not overdone. And it comes with au jus for drizzling on your steak and toasted rustic baguette. And I melted some muenster on it, and it took all of five minutes to assemble but I would've happily paid $15 for it.
I think I'm going to go head down to therapy early and hit up the cafe there before hand.

Hooray, excellent bone health!

Bone Superiority!
I wanted something homey and delicious for dinner, but I had to clean up the kitchen so I didn't want to make a production out of it.
So I rooted around in my crisper drawer and found the four Yukon Gold potatoes left from Thanksgiving, and diced them up and roasted them under the broiler. I'd just been to Oaktown Spice so I was restocked with my favorites plus they had a new Greek Seasoning blend and dried Chives so I went to town on the spuds, doing all the seasoning right in the small roasting pan.
Threw those under the broiler while I did dishes, managing to not burn anything since I stayed in the same room. (The broiler in our house is about four inches from the pan, whereas at the apartment it was further away, so I've had to adjust my timing and have learned to use a timer when I'm not hovering over the oven.)
Then, because (a) cooking for one is a drag (mainly because of all the cleanup) and (b) Trader Joe's provides me with quick proteins, I used their Sous Vide Chicken Thighs. Just heated those up in a small frying pan, with lashings of my new seasonings and it was great.
Juicy flavorful chicken with scrumptious roasted potatoes. A perfect winter meal, and pretty easy clean-up.
