So, my brother got married a month ago and I wanted to get them a fancy fish spatula because the concept of wedding gifts make me think of Bertie Wooster always saying he's going to give everyone fish slices and our fanciest brand does have a fancy fish turner. Unfortunately, the tools don't seem to be available through the employee order system so I can't get the fat discount I like. So do I get them just the spatula for about $50 or the set of 5 tools for $250 (which seems like a lot to spend on a 2nd for both wedding gift, but maybe it's a reasonable amount? Keeping in mind the wedding was literally a barefoot on a river beach affair and they certainly don't need all the establish-your-household-stuff of traditional wedding giftage)
Note: I was waiting to see if maybe the tools would be part of the Hestan offerings at the outlet sale this weekend, but I got to check out the assortment yesterday and they are not
A $50 spatula AFTER discount? That is one fancy spatula!!
I would much like to end some conversations at work by telling people our conversation has reached its limit.
No, there's no discount. It's is pretty fancy, though! [link] I am now thinking maybe a spatula and a whisk? Everyone can use another fancier whisk, right?
What are the other tools?
Pasta fork, ladle, solid spoon, and common or garden variety turner [link]
The "pasta fork" claims that it has optimized placement of prongs for pasta retention and transfer. I just can't quite believe that, but maybe it's actually true
$250 is a lot, but maybe not for a wedding gift? And you can never have too many big spoons.
At least three of those things would just sit in my drawers, but I'm not your brother.
He does make part of his living cooking, so he would probably use them all, but he also probably already has tools he likes. I dunno. If I was getting wholesale pricing I'd get the set but without the employee discount there seems like less reason for me to get them for him. Jess makes a good point about the spoons, though.
optimized placement of prongs for pasta retention and transfer
Dang, I can't believe I've been retaining and transferring pasta with a suboptimal fork this whole time.
Right? I wish I could have seen the R&D lab when they were working on that
