The Incredible Story of the Cartel Olympics. The journalist was contacted by a film maker he knew about vetting this story of a former Olympic runner who had contacted pitched the story of when he was kidnapped by a cartel and forced to compete in athletic events.
I read it this morning free bit it's under a paywall so I'm not sure how that happened.
It is a really interesting going between what happened to the man and the journalist working to vet his story and if it really happened. Spoiler...it didn't but it seemed to me pretty clear that was where it was heading but the whole thing is fascinating.
I enjoyed it well enough, but best picture? I dunno.
I can't remember the specific films but I vaguely remember there were a lot of really polarizing nominees that year, and Coda was the one movie on the list everyone could agree was pretty good.
