Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Timelies all!
Went to the Renaissance Festival today. Mostly did what Mr. S wanted to do. It was nice weather for a day out.
In other news, my dad is home. My mom is either in a hospital or a rehab center, since all the time being bedridden has weakened her legs and she needs to regain her strength.
Talking to neighbors, somehow this all came up, and come to find out his kid is in the same class as my neighbor! I forget what grade, but definitely bigger than I would have guessed for Jon's kid.
I saw Jon and the AWB this summer! Definitely not a toddler anymore. Then again, we tend to refer to Jessica's son as "Baby Dylan" (because that's what Matilda called him) and he's taller than I am now.
So glad at least one parent is home, Sheryl! Is your dad doing okay on his own or does he have family/other helpers with him?
RenFaire (one of the two last surviving offshoots of the one true original just reopened here for the first time since 2020, and I miss it terribly but won't be going; nothing to wear, no time to put anything together, and far too many ghosts.
Today is the day that all of Zmayhem slept in until 10:30, and we're all still a little logy and I for one am ready to crawl right back in and go for another epic 11 hours. But I have an editing project and I'm waiting for a phone call from one of the priests about the graveside gathering next Saturday (following which we will stop by to visit the other family members interred there, and then go out the gate and down the street for ice cream at Fenton's, a.k.a. the ice cream parlour from
Up),
and Hec just reminded me that we're still behind on What We Do In The Shadows and had also planned to rewatch Over The Garden Wall, the most autumnal cartoon we know of, so I guess I can't quite collapse just yet.
quiet night on Natter!
I'm off to SLO for a few days with a friend, and I'm not bringing my work phone because there's something wrong with the secure software and I can't read my email. YAY.
Now to pack and walk the dog and clean the kitchen and go to the gym before I leave...
I'm in total chill mode this weekend. Thinking about taking a shower now that the house has warmed up. Put stuff in the slow cooker earlier. That is about as ambitious as I have managed.
Last night was even more chill. Got myself all comfy in the recliner, had a glass of wine at hand, lit a candle, turned on my Nook, and read for about 3 hours. I thought I deserved it after going to see the god-awful Addams Family movie with my great-nephew. Although I love him dearly, I did pass on going to his soccer scrimmage it is in the mid-50s and drizzling.
Random summer accomplishment. I am 6 weeks into Spanish using Duolingo. Only missed a couple of days. Most days I do a good hour. I'm a long way off from being bilingual, but more of a chance to understand all the Spanish speakers around me. By the time I get back to Florida, I may try listening to some Spanish television. My Spanish teacher niece suggested watching a movie I know well in Spanish.
Fanworks con this weekend, so I've spent most of my hours watching vids.
I spent most of yesterday trying to get rid of a migraine, though I did manage to briefly hit the new light rail station that opened yesterday (one of three). It was a gorgeous day out, so I’m sad I spent most of it asleep, but I did get some good afternoon sun.
Today got up early and got this coffee a friend introduced me to yesterday and it is amazing. I’m so glad it’s far away because otherwise I would be going all the time.
Now to get more done, to make up for yesterday and prep for the week—especially since I’m heading to a con on Thursday (“Clexacon” for queer women representation in media). Not sure really any of it will be my beautiful cake but it’s with friends so that part should be good.
Went to the UUFD’s 1st in-person service since March 2020. The in person attendance was small, masked & able to sit quite spaced out from each other. We also had zoom service - which we are planning on continuing for people who cannot be there in person. Actual, in person coffee hour too.
It was lovely to see people I haven’t seen in person in ages & to see a couple of people who are regulars who don’t attend on zoom & one person who had started attending on zoom & had never been in- person before.
Hang out day yesterday, then dinner with friends. Today just got mani/pedi, and quick CVS trip. Did a quick Newsletter edit this morning. Probably some WoW in my future now. And some food. Relaxing weekend. Would like to read now, after reading Laura's lovely recliner/wine reading time!
Timelies all!
My dad is fine on his own.(His diet may be a bit more limited, as he doesn’t cook much)
Mr. S is being impatient boy again.
