Today is Emmett's birthday! Over the last many years we've tended to focus on Matilda's birthday and he joins for that. However, she doesn't want a big family to-do for her birthday and wants to scamper off with her friends.
So Emmett and his gf, Kalena are coming down. EM is joining us. And in a big happy surprise, my college roommate Chip is in town with his wife Carole. I don't think Chip has seen Emmett since he was little so it'll be fun to introduce my kids to him. All gathering at our house at 6:30, then tromping on down to Siam Lotus for Thai food at 7. I just have to pick up the Fuerst Pueckler cake.
but that does mean I will be constantly earwormed with it and my ridiculous brain keeps trying to try to put the words to Kubla Khan onto it. "In Xanada did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decree where Alph the sacred river ran, Jolene"
Heh! If it's any consolation I've almost finished your package so I should be sending it out soon.
Ooh, something to look forward to!
That sounds quite delightful, David.

After I moved to SF, Chip would come out to visit me (at this same apartment) for at least a week every summer for many consecutive years. I'd give him a set of keys and he'd do his runs through GG park and it was always great. After rooming together in college it wasn't really like hosting a guest.
I've seen him a few times over the last few years (and got to meet and know his adult kids) but that was back at Pittsburgh, or at college reunions in Ohio. Anyway, it's just a lovely surprise and bonus.
I've heard you mention Chip often through the years. It will mean a lot to him to see you and yours together.

As much as I love Dolly, I flippin' HATE this song, so your filk actually helps me. So thanks!
But boy does my arm hurt!
Yeah, my shingles shots (especially the first one) felt a lot like a tetanus shot, arm-pain-wise.
That does sound awesome, David. Enjoy, all!
That does not sound delightful, -t. Hope it returns to normal soon.
Lunch with friends, yay, Laura.
Have a couple friends over for a WFJ day (work from Jen's), and we took the one out for a b-day lunch. This is the crew I'm going to the beach with end of October for a WFB (work from beach) week.
That's about it from here. Rain cleared up just in time for lunch, which was great.
