Wow go Casper!!
Also yay Nilly!!
Why is my jaw itching?? It was doing that the other day, and then it stopped and I forgot about it but it was happening again all evening. Not my face, not really my neck, just like, my jawline. Wtf? Obnoxious.
But my BFF is in town and we had a great day today and tomorrow we go watch soccer and Monday I took off work, so should be a good weekend.
Happy birthday, meara! Have a fabulous long weekend and may the year to come be the best you've had to date.
Pfft. They're lucky to have you, and they're understaffed.
What David said.
Wait, askye, you were sick three days in the last six months and they gave you a warning? WTF. So in the middle of a pandemic and they're trying to make people come to work sick.
Bad management, bad policy. Shit like that is why employers are struggling so much to hire anyone.
In other news, I went to my sister's new cabin in gold country with her on Thursday night, and we had to come right back on Friday because the wind shifted overnight and everything smelled of smoke. The AQ numbers were in the 300s. So now I'm home again and at least I cleaned my house up a bit yesterday.
I got enough of a raise with the new job that I can probably hire a regular house-cleaner, but the administrative burden of setting that up seems too much. Dunno why. I also haven't sent out some cards I need to send, or bought presents I need to send. I feel like the best I can do is manage my job and feeding myself, and that's about it. Argh.
I got a new cell phone this week -- my 'old' one must be at least 2-3 years old, and it was a lower-end model even then. This one isn't a high-end one (not a Samsung, which were sold out) but then anything that isn't barely into the 3 figures seems expensive to me.
Not entirely related, I finally got a scan of my COVID vax card and put it into a picture I can call up on my phone, as well as keeping it in my purse. I'm going on vacation to Vermont next week, and will probably be going (carefully) to restaurants and museums where I might have to produce it.
Thanks! I have had a couple of things that were "taken care of" and my manager didn't want to do this but she said she knew it wasn't a behavioral problem just more of things happening but it showed up from corporate so she had to.
Well there was a little bit of an indignant - "But! why aren't they making an exception for me!" But I also know there's a difference between getting a little leeway and not being held accountable at all.
Bad management, bad policy. Shit like that is why employers are struggling so much to hire anyone.
Yeah, that's some bullshit.
I think if I was out with the flu then all those absences would be counted as 1 occurrence. And they used to give us more leeway on certain things. I know when Mom had her stroke I was told (because everyone who called out was told this) that it would be considered an occurrence but when I talked to my then assistant manager and she told me to worry about it. And then they worked out me being out for a few weeks. But again this was pre pandemic and we had as many people working in the mens' active section then as we have for the entire mens department now.
Edited- the other reality is that if too many people call out in a day they have to scramble around to see if people can cut their lunch short or stay late so we can meet our allotted hours. If we don't then we risk next month having reduced hours based on what hours we used during the current month. Which sucks but we don't have any wiggle room at this point.
They had a hiring thing on Saturday and there were 6 people who applied and out of those 5 people were going to get interviews and we are going into the holidays and I honestly don't know what is going to happen then.
Askye, that just sucks. I have had similar “write-ups” where the person writing me up has told me they don’t want to do it.
Gulf Coast/NOLA is getting hammered hard. Looks like it came in Cat 4 which is stronger than Katrina. Hopefully the levees hold, but there's still going to be so much wind damage.
