Handsome brooding vampire guy has to swoop in all sensitive mouth and overhanging forehead. How 'bout leaving some scraps for the homely-looking fellows who don't turn evil when they get some?

Meaty, no bean chili

Why no beans? I know they're protein-y; are they also carb-y?

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Beans are carby, yes.

I honestly never really thought about that. My brain gets as far as "beans = protein and also yum" and then stops. I guess they would be carby. Huh.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

It's funny because I've gone from making a vegetarian black bean chili with meatless ground soy for JZ, to flipping around and doing the all meaty chili.

A wreath of beef/pork chili around a fried egg? Superb!

Thank you, David! I do enjoy Greek yogurt, and I appreciate the reminder about eating oat bran in the morning. I'll start experimenting with savory options tomorrow morning.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

If you need a bean and are willing to have some carbs, black soy beans are your go-to.

One of the chili places here allegedly makes a 6-way, which is a 5-way* topped with a fried egg. I am intrigued.

*5-way = chili over spaghetti with cheese, beans, and onions.

Remove noodles, add egg, voila!

Thank you, David!

You're most welcome. I posted some pix on your FB page.

IF you decide to get into a more aggressive weight loss approach I can give tips on what worked for me. The good thing about going with a high protein/ketosis approach is that you don't ever really have to be hungry.

Lately I've been missing Reuben sandwiches, so I've been doing hot pastrami with sauteed onions and melted cheese. It's not AS good because toasted rye bread is fantastic, but hot pastrami is fabulous in its own right.

It's weird how much the Food Pyramid we grew up with was a Big Damned Lie.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

I have GOT to get back to high protein & veggies/low carb eating, but it’s really damn difficult when you live with a professional baker. Plus Mr. Loomy is sensitive to nightshades, and I have no energy/mental bandwidth to plan and cook food.
