Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I think MA is doing healthcare workers first, and people in long-term care facilities second, but I have read so many things, I can't keep the straight without looking them up again. I feel bad for your doc, Sparky. I would not be surprised if a lot of healthcare workers seek out new professions when this has past.
I am sorry you, and you too, Cashmere, have to deal with all these unmasked people. Cash, I hope you get to put your feet up when you get home, girl. What a hard day.
DH had the, "No, you need to quarantine 14 days and test around day 10" convo with eldest son, regarding Christmas. All four of us who live here agree on it, so at least no one of us felt like we're being the stickler.
If punching out Nazis is wrong, I don't want to be right.
The T-shirts always say to punch more Nazis, Matt. I think you're good.
Different jurisdictions are handling it differently, but the recommendation to all of them is to prioritize vaccinating the health care workers that are specifically working with covid patients or high-risk-for-covid populations.
Of course there are political leaders who say they themselves should get it first. Some of them are planning to get vaccinated asap while maintaining the line that covid is a hoax, no big deal, and the vaccine is dangerous. Thus my personal opinion is that pretty much every elected official, or official appointed by an elected official, should be at the end of the queue.
My FiL's doctor at the VA is telling him that he'll get vaccinated by spring, and I'm not sure that's realistic. We *might* have enough supplies to vaccinated front-line health care and the highest risk (nursing home residents, etc). It's unclear whether we'll have enough to go beyond that until next summer, and even if we do, most states want to vaccinate teachers and then key elements of the economy (including first responders) before random retired people.
Timelies all!
I've taken the week off to use up leave. Managed to get a few errands done, including finally getting the replacement sunglasses clip. (Which I ordered in September 2019, apparently got sent back though nobody told me they had arrived, and reordered in October of this year. Communication fails on the part of the My Eye Doctor I used.)
Tomorrow's going to be a joy, as Gary's going into his office for a full day. I'll have to get Mr. S set up for school, then the nanny get here around 9. She'll be leaving around 3, so I'll have to deal with him for a few hours by myself.
Also, my ER doc niece in Ohio won't be getting vaccinated in the first round because instead of health care they are sending it to nursing homes?
From my perspective, this is like parents putting the oxygen mask on before tending to their kids on a plane. You help the helpers first.
Timelies!
Sparky that (the office) is infuriating.
I’m so mad on dr. Cousin’s behalf simply because they are working so hard and they just need honest information.
Smol regular medical tests tomorrow but I sure would appreciate some health~ma and everything’s-ok~ma if you have it to spare.
~ma for those who need it, and sorry to hear about so many shit shows.
I'm trying to get my act together on stuff that's been on my To Do list for a while where the deadlines are looming now, so focus is required even though I remain unmoored in time. Given that the Bay Area is on lockdown through January 4th and that the California DMV still is not offering appointments, I think I have zero chance of applying for a REAL ID before my current license expires. Therefore I think I'm stuck with renewing my license online and having to go through the REAL ID rigamarole at some nebulous point in the future, which is annoying but ultimately fine.
That's what I did with my license, shrift.
Health~ma for hippo and other ~ma for those who need it.
I told my parents that I won't be visiting for Christmas. I don't think they were surprised. I need to get their gift going. I'm trying to figure out how to get all the components compiled and to them on time.
Tonight I listened to my employer's audio play of ACC. After the "bows" the actors each had personal messages/wishes for the audience and that part got me all weepy. I guess it was hearing the actors (not characters) who I know that got me.
I told my parents that I won't be visiting for Christmas.
When I talked to my mom yesterday, she pretty much just assumed I wouldn't be visiting for Christmas and threatened to keep the Christmas tree up until I finally could get out there. It was a relief to have that settled without drama. I wish you luck in wrangling gifts. I need to get on that, too.
Thank you kindly, Shrift & Aurelia.
We're definitely staying put for the holidays, as are T's parents. Just planning to wave over zoom at everyone.
On one hand, I just lost the LDB game. OTOH, it was Grace Jones singing it on the Pee-wee Herman holiday special, so it was the coolest way possible.
