"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Wait, what are Brocco Tacos? Because that sounds like broccoli and that sounds very wrong to me.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I don't know why I'm not already best friends with Carla Lalli-Music. This is what I get for leaving New York.

Hmmm, I remain unconvinced. In any case, that is way more implements than I have or want in my kitchen.

Our wings are not tired.

I'd be more than happy to eat them if someone wants to make them for me.

the hardest to learn / was the least complicated

No brocco tacos, but getting ready to roast broccoli to go with seared scallops for dinner.

I vigorously attacked the yard with the weed-eater (no cicadas yet, but they’ll be here soon, based on all the cicada chimneys in the yard) and then did our taxes. That is not a Sunday funday at all.

You've got friends to have good times with. When you need to share the trauma of a badly-written book with someone, that's when you go to family.

Laura, that was kind of you. Mark's good people, and he hires good people - during BrainShare, we were always one of the groups where somebody had to be driven back to the hotel to get their passport out of the safe, because they wouldn't believe us when we'd say "It's Utah, they check ID for anyone who looks as if they could be under 35, could you just trust us on this?" The FOH was invariably cool about it, and we tipped accordingly.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I trimmed my hair and scrubbed the tub to put off taxes, but all are now completed and I shall fix salmon, broccoli, and carrots for dinner. This may be the first time since I was 20 that I've had a single W-2 and no 1099s.

Thrive to spite them

I haven't eaten enough veggies lately so after a rather unhealthy dinner I'm having a snack of sauteed mixed veggies.

My taxes are.. well not done done but they are ok. I'm going to count this as a semi successful day of adulting.

Also Zoom'ed with the family. Mom is ready to come home but she seemed happy. I could see Jay's son in the background - he made sugar cookies today. I hate that this happened to Jay but Mom getting to spend time with a kid and being able to actively be a grandma has really helped her. Found out that E's summer camp will be having camp AND that he will be staying in NC with mom for most of the summer. I'm surprised my brother is ok with that honestly but I will get to see him! And he will be an almost teenager.

He'll be 13 this year. THIRTEEN!!! His voice is changing and he is 5'8" so the next time I see him he will be taller than me.

I did my taxes today, and for various reasons of being knowingly lax, I owe. I'm doing DP's tomorrow; should be fairly standard.

I guess cicada reports will get old pretty quickly, so apologies in advance, but this is basically day one of seeing more than one husk, and, dear lord, I may never go out again. They live!

It was a nice two weeks of seeing people I like again post vaccination. Oh, well.

One snuck into my house on the bottom of a package that I had already knocked three off of. Shudder.

ETA: But I did download Cicada Safari on my phone so that I can be all citizen scientist about it.

Tim's family wants to have a birthday party for Tim's dad 2 weeks from today, and they were starting to plan it at a park. Apparently I am the only one with any goddamn sense in that family, because I said oh HELL no, am I the only one who remembers what the cicada invasion is like? Plus Tim's dad is officially a cranky old man who doesn't like being anywhere that isn't climate controlled and doesn't have a cushy place for him to sit and a bathroom very close by (and I have to say, honestly, SAME). And a park doesn't have any of those things. Plus within 90 seconds he would be all "Can someone do something about those bugs? Why are they so loud? I need to go inside." (And, again, SAME.)
