But I thought his wife had more common sense, and I don't even get how she can continue at her job without proof of vaccination at this point.
Last I knew, ignorant niece in Georgia (who had Covid in March 2020, and whose husband and at least one of their kids were diagnosed ~March 2021) was refusing the vaccine. She's also a nurse (who works at a hospital). I don't think they should be allowed to work without the vaccine. Patients have a reasonable right to receive care from healthcare providers who are trying not to spread this thing.
In the 90s, when I worked in the Mass. General finance department, in a building across town, in which we did not provide patient care at all, they tested me for TB, chicken pox antibodies (this was before that vaccine), and MMR antibodies, and I had to provide proof of all my vaccinations, before I could begin orientation.
One of the physical therapist I was seeing said that he had refused the vaccine, and I refused to make any more appointments with him.
Good. I hope all of his clients react like that.
Wow, sj. You would think it would be required by his employer. My medical offices wouldn't let me come in to do work until I had my vaccine, because they were concerned for my exposure. All the doctors and medical staff I know are vaccinated.
And, of course, the University I work at has been informed that we cannot require the vaccine for either students or faculty/staff. Again, Texas.
Yeah, even Hopkins isn't requiring staff be vaccinated. (At least they weren't when the vaccines started rolling out.) Which i really don't get because they do require staff get flu vaccines.
I'm so sorry about your cousin, askye. What a horribly sad situation.
As I understand it, employers like mine don't feel soild requring this vax like they do others because it's only been approved on an emergency basis. When that status changes, my employer has indicated they may be more open to requiring it.
I'm so sorry, askye.
Our HR dept has said that they cannot require us to get vaccinated but they have the right to ask if we have been. Not sure what that means, probably nothing until the safety requirements for being on site are relaxed.
IJWTS I am not enjoying today from a work perspective. Too many people expecting me to do too much work.
askye, what a wretched mess. I'm terribly sorry.
Mostly I want to whap them over the head until they see reason or my arm gets tired, but I've managed to move a couple of people to "Hmmm" status with "International travel was a big part of your job before this, and you're an advocate for the right of countries to control their borders - if your employer needs to send you somewhere that requires proof of vaccination before entry, how are you thinking you'll handle that?"
I am slightly growly on my own behalf today: the clinic at the high school has appointments for this weekend, and I don't qualify until next week. It's probably better that Jim and I stagger it this way so one of us is fully functional.
