Most people is pretty quiet right about now. Me, I see a stiff -- one I didn't have to kill myself -- I just get, the urge to, you know, do stuff. Like work out, run around, maybe get some trim if there's a willin' woman about... not that I get flush from corpses or anything. I ain't crazy.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

I'm so sorry, askye. Sending all the healing~ma your cousin's way.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Only if it means reading The Paris Wife.

That was confusing for a second, because I read a just-OK book called The Paris Orphan, which has Martha Gellhorn as a character!

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Heh. The Paris Wife is by Paula McLain, who also has a book about Gellhorn, which I have not read yet.

Much ~ma to your family, askye.

Re: Hemmingway. While I’m not terribly into his writing, he was an interesting person who lived through interesting times and knew other writers and artists of the time period. I could see a Hemmingway bio being worthwhile.

I'm enjoying "Hemingway", but I find biographies interesting. Having said that, I'm not running out to buy any of his books. I found the first episode, where they talk about how his writing impacted other writers the most interesting so far.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

Ugh Matt Re: friends refusing vaccine. So far the ppl I know refusing are front desk lady at work, janitor at work, dogwalker’s husband, and my cousin who had Covid. Oh and so far, my son. I am losing my ability to hold my tongue at all. It is selfish and stupid.

Thrive to spite them

Thanks everyone . I realized Jay and I are the same age. I forget that for some reason. He has never been particularly nice to me, especially as kids. But he has always been fond of mom and called her a few weeks ago to get some advice on how to deal with his mom.

I got an update and Mom said they are waiting for the bleeding to stop and the swelling to go down and then he'll have to wake up on his own but there is very little chance of that.

I am very very worried about his son. Jay is his main parent. His mother is....horrible. she was physically abusive at times towards Jay. She is an alcoholic who has never gotten sober. Jay is an only child so he has no siblings. His mother is 80 and really should be in assisted living.

It's just so sad

What is even happening?

We also found that both of them are refusing to get vaccinated, which I don't even know how that's possible if you're a pediatrics nurse in a children's hospital.

Matt, I'm sorry to hear that. A while back, I read that a lot of nurse's groups (on FB and the like) had been infiltrated by anti-vaxxers (and maybe including foreign disinformation campaigns).

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I mean, I live in Arkansas, so there's no shortage of people around who believe they know better than all the doctors at the CDC who've been researching the coronavirus as the pandemic progressed. And my best friend never met a Right Wing talking point he didn't immediately adopt as gospel, so even that's not much of a surprise. But I thought his wife had more common sense, and I don't even get how she can continue at her job without proof of vaccination at this point.
