had a friend stay at a place called the El Morroco Inn and it looked so incredibly fabulous. Like the inside of Jeannie's bottle.
This is one of our favorite places! We've been there multiple times over the years, though it's been a long time since our last visit. It's in Desert Hot Springs on a residential street, and you think you must have made a terrible mistake until you walk through the front door and are in love. They're fed by natural hot springs and cool the pool to something silly like 90 degrees and the huge tiled hot tub to 104.

In mortality sucks news, DH just called to tell me about an acquaintance passing. Not a close friend, but a person who we knew for decades and related to. He and his wife had a plumbing business with him a Master Plumber and her handling the business. Together 30 years like us, 2 kids like us. Anyway, he called their office this morning and asked if Jim could come do some plumbing thing at the house and Robin said she was sorry but she would have to refer him to another plumber and she could email a list. Brendon asked if he would be freed up in a couple weeks or whatever, and she tells him Jim died a month ago. He was 57 and by all outward appearances in great shape. Have no idea if it was an accident or what happened. Poor woman can't even grieve because she has to handle a thriving business without the main worker. And she has to answer the phone and go through it all again over and over as people for months/years to come call and ask for his plumbing assistance. Sucks.
So of course DH is super fragile and seeing us in their experience.
ETA: Posted before I saw Laura's news. That sucks a bunch. ~ma for your DH.
Just got my vax appointment for next Tuesday!
Excellent news!
That's fine, except I eat different than her and now need to go grocery shopping, Bottom line, after so long being home and not going anywhere, I just want to be home and not go anywhere.
I hear that. Once I'm fully vaccinated, my family was all, "You could come out here and stay for an entire month!" And my reaction was, "No, I don't think I will." I've spent the last year in quarantine living by myself and not having to compromise. Let's start with two weeks and see if I'm not fully losing my mind.
Work is trying to sell me on returning to the office while seemingly putting additional limits on remote work, and I'm failing to understand the benefits of collaboration when we're still going to be masking and social-distancing. So... we're just going to yell at each other across a room? Is that how we're going to "collaborate"?
I'm sorry, Laura. That would be hard to deal with for your friend, and also sad for you and your DH.
I'm glad to hear more people are getting their vax appointments!
Laura, I'm so sorry for your loss.
Just got my vax appointment for next Tuesday! Woo! So excited. Jabbinate me baby, eight to the bar.
WTG, Hec! I will get my second Moderna shot on Thursday. I think brenda will, too. The past 22 days seem to have taken forever.
meara, pants are jerks.

A month anywhere is a long time, shrift. I think you're smart to start smaller.
My mom has a cottage in Maine, and that's pretty much the only place DH and I have gone on vacation since the kids were born (which worked well when they were little, because at least one of them would get sick). We've always done weekends here and there based on the kids' schedules, etc., and then one week.
One summer, we decided to do two consecutive weeks, and it was the longest two weeks of our lives -- with our own kids -- with whom we already lived. I don't even think my mom was there for most of it (if any), so it wasn't even that. It was just a long time to be somewhere else with them.

Yeah, her pictures looked so alluring. Even better than the ones posted on their website. So cool that you've been there!
Now I'm anxious because I haven't gotten my confirmation email. I did make sure to screenshot my officially Booked screen with all the details, but when I tried to use that confirmation code through my Walgreen's account, the code was too long. So I presume there's some special code for Covid vax, but that's disquieting. I just hope they need a cycle to upload all the new appointments before they send out the confirmation email. (I'm used to automated instant gratification confirmation!)
DavidS, it took several hours for my confirmation email to come through from Walgreens. Don't sweat it.
When I showed up for my appointment, I only had to give my name, they didn't ask for the confirmation code or email. They did ask for my photo ID.
Same experience as dcp, David. It was making me anxious how long it took Walgreens to send me my confirmation emails, but the Walgreens app did show me my COVID-19 Vaccination appointments pretty quickly. I just took a look a the Walgreens website and couldn't figure out how to find my appointments until I went to the vaccination scheduler and an "Manage existing COVID-19 vaccination appointment" option finally showed up.

So are you saying that Trump was right about the tanning beds? Actually the part about using the rays in air filtration units sounded interesting.
