Anya: We should drop a piano on her. It always works for that creepy cartoon rabbit when he's running from that nice man with the speech impediment. Giles: Yes, or perhaps we could paint a convincing fake tunnel on the side of a mountain.

Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I think San Francisco is headed for another Shelter-in-Place order. Though I don't know how that will affect me that much unless they close the bookstores and Amoeba again. I'm not seeing any evidence of outbreaks being driven by retail stores and they're barely hanging on as it is, and need xmas shopping.

One of my favorite places on Haight Street, Love It To Death (Lots of gothic curiosities) closed. I talked to the owner as she was putting things out on a For Free table. (I nabbed a vintage microscope.) I've seen LOTS of hair salons and nail salons go under. Music venues too. You really notice it here because these are all locally owned places. These aren't chains.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, when I got my haircut, my stylist took my info, because she's not convinced the salon will make it. And also not sure she still wants to work with the owner, who she doesn't trust with COVID, so yikes.

Librarian Warlord

I hope Rory is better!

There are some real questions about how much vaccine will actually be available - the numbers seem to indicate that there might not be enough to vaccinate front line health care workers in these first rounds, so most of us regular folks are really looking at 2022 before we get it.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Laura, tons of ~ma to your office manager and her family.

The RI hospitals are reaching capacity, and they're having a soft lockdown for the next two weeks. I'm really worried about friends and relatives there.

Hec, I'm also worried about small businesses. I have been ordering only from local restaurants, but I haven't really been comfortable shopping in person. We have done some curbside pick up.

I ordered a hamburger for lunch because I felt if I didn't have one it might not be safe for other people to be around me. Also, I ordered ltc donuts because TCG doesn't have time to get her special treats after school and I haven't ordered her anything since I've been in pain.

Punishingly Intricate

Yeah, same here, David. It's heartbreaking. Relatedly, if anyone doesn't have local shops to support and needs assistance finding cool gifts, let me know!! I'd love to help you shop!

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

I think San Francisco is headed for another Shelter-in-Place order.

Meanwhile, in Ohio, some GOP members of the state House of Representatives have formally filed articles of impeachment against our (GOP) governor, calling his shutting down some businesses/enforcing a curfew "an abuse of power." They are insane and want us all to die.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

A family friend has COVID, which would be one thing, except he's been living with his mom and her husband in their co-op building full of people in their 70s and now half of them have to quarantine, because one person outside the family spent time with the guy with the COVID. Uggghhhhh. I'm basically begging my mother not to see her friends this week.

Hope your pup is better today, Meara!

The Daily podcast episode about the vaccine progress is a good listen. And somewhat encouraging about timing. [link]

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Wow, Elliot Page (formerly Ellen Page) came out as trans.

I can't imagine how much courage that took, knowing how much hate he'll get for it. But fuck those people.
