Going for the final walk through of the old apartment at 10a, yay. Other than, you know, the cats having destroyed part of the cheap ass carpet they have there. Meh.

Whee, JenP!

Upon reflection, I think I would prefer to work in Conjunction Junction

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I found the whole "I'm only a bill" song to be very helpful when I first started working in DC.

For a change of pace, what I think is one of the best scenes from Babylon 5.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

So there's potential good news on Matilda's summer front. Although, at this point, I expect the gods to just dangle good things in front of her just to snatch them away again.

1) JZ contacted Parks and Rec and they corrected Matilda's status, so she's eligible to apply for summer jobs. No guarantee of getting one as they have more applicants than jobs, BUT they DO have a girl's softball camp and she does have three years of experience. And babysitting experience. And crafting and arts experience. Anyway, I have to pull her out of her jewelry class early tonight because she has to do a Zoom job interview. Not too much pressure for the 14 y.o.

2) We have heard rumors but nothing official yet that Matilda's beloved sleepaway camp may in fact do SOME kind of summer session, especially for the kids like her who would be aging out of being a camper.

If both of those things happened, life would get infinitely for her.

Good luck to Matilda! Very glad Parks&Rec corrected her status, that is so frustrating when things like that disrupt all potential for good outcomes.

That's awesome, Toddson. I know I watched Babylon 5 back in the day, perhaps it's time to rewatch. As I recall, I had to hunt around for it on independent over the air channels and got the episodes out of order and probably missed a lot, a bingewatch once would probably be an entirely different experience.

I have goods on an Evergreen ship that does not appear to be stuck anywhere. I wonder how long seeing their vessel names will make me shake my head and laugh at them a little...

What's your function?

I'm holding every good thought for Miss Matilda. Enough is enough.

Oh, totally pulling for these good things for Matilda. Yes.

Walkthrough went fine. Carpet was the only issue, which, fair. They prorate the replacement cost against a five-year cycle; we were there for 2.5 years. DP is adamant that he's not paying a penny over the original $350 deposit, because we've been paying a $100 per month pet fee for two years, so what is that for if not replacement cost? Makes sense to me, but I will leave any such arguing to him. I am DONE with that whole chapter, phew.

I am delighted by our new place. The light alone is worth the move. There's also a screened-in porch which as been so cool! It wasn't even particularly in my "win" column for the place, but I'm so happy with it. I would love to commission Allyson to come make it cute, but a) I can't afford that, b) pandemic, c) don't think she hires out her decorating talents, and d) well, I'm sure there's a "d", but if anyone could make the somewhat drab porch into a lovely oasis, it would be Allyson. Ah, well.

One good thing about my move was that the new owners of my old apartment building are going to be doing a complete renovation ... which meant that I didn't have to do a clean-up and fix-up when I moved out.

JenP - Mar 31, 2021 11:05:38 am PDT #5054 of 30000

That is nice, Toddson. They had a three-tiered cleaning option if we wanted to use their crew, and I did go with the "basic" on that. Obviously didn't add the carpet cleaning, and I forget what the third thing was for, but I didn't choose it. Totally worth it to avoid them nickle and diming me on minor cleaning issues.
