Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Sophia, you can do a bcc to the bunch, when the main recipient is the primary addressee, but that might not solve the problem of the co-worker assuming it's not for her. The Bloggess did a post on the dangers of hitting "reply all" when she'd replied to a PR/ad company that she wasn't interested in running their ads on her site; someone hit "reply all" when he responded to her email calling her a bitch.
Sometimes, it works out well, but that's kind of the exception.
My current struggle is with the guy who manages our website - on the calendar/schedule he keeps using Eastern Standard/Daylight times ... only he doesn't check to make sure he's using the appropriate one, which led to a lot of confused people not sure when (virtual) events would start. I've suggested he just use Eastern Time and allow people to figure it out, but he prefers to use the (sometimes incorrect) specific time. sigh ....
I think person one just doesn't read the header. We have been working from home for over a year, and she still doesn't ever mute or turn her camera off. And she only ever shows us the top of her head.
I think person two is just a little overwhelmed and doesn't have a lot of skill discerning the part that is for her unless called out specifically within the email (which I do sometimes).
ltc is fine, but yesterday evening she was playing her wooden recorder while looking out the window, and somehow fell into the window, pushing the recorder into the roof of her mouth. She has a good bruise on the roof of her mouth, and I'm taking her to the dentist to make sure her teeth are okay in a little while. She freaked out about missing school. So I took her in at 9, and am picking her up at 11 so that she could at least get a couple of hours with her friends.
Oh no! Poor ltc, and you. I hope the scare was the worst of it. Good compromise on letting her go to school for a couple hours. Let us know what the dentist says.
Poor, ltc! A bruise in the roof of the mouth sounds miserable.
Just got notice that Matilda did NOT get the summer job with Parks and Rec she wanted. They say she doesn't meet the requirements, but she does.
The thing that's hard to watch, JZ said, is that she just shrugged. She really wanted this job, but now she doesn't expect to get anything good. Just rejections in all directions. Didn't get into SotA. Didn't get a school assignment with her friends. Didn't get any assignment until after the school year started. Cut out of friend groups by their social bubbles. Not getting back to campus.
So, now we're scrambling to figure out how to fill out her summer a bit.
We've got one week planned at Nanita's cabin, with a friend. And...10 more fucking weeks to fill.
Ow! Poor ltc. That sounds so painful!
ltc is fine, the dentist said she doesn't need to see her doctor about her mouth, and the only teeth that are loose are the ones that are supposed to be. So I guess the tooth fairy should look into getting some change for her $20 bill just to be ready.
Poor Matilda, this must be so awful for her! I'm so sorry.
I found a house listing today that I absolutely want to see because it checks all the box of everything we were looking for when we first started looking, and TCG is being practical about money and things we would need to fix in this house to sell it. Boo.
Ouch! I am glad she does not need to see the doctor.
Hec, that just sounds terrible for Matilda. I have no words or advice, just love.
Wait- I do have a little advice- is there somewhere COVID safe you could send her for a week or two? Like a friend who is like an auntie? I would go to a farm where one of my mom's friend's lived every summer, and just hand out with them. Just being out of the house and away from my family was good for my teen self. Since I didn't drive, the internet didn't exist, my grandparents were home 24/7, and I didn't have many friends, it seems a little like COVID 19 quarantine. I think Matilda probably needs a more fabulous aunt who would do dress up and home spas and such, but I was pretty happy being part of a sort of bustling big family which was not what I had at home!
I love that idea, Sophia!!! I would have loooooved that when I was Matilda's age.
Poor Matilda. Hope she can find somewhere cool to go, or something to earn some spending money (mother’s helper for the many folks who also are missing out on summer camps and plans this summer?)
