Gunn: Well, how horrible is this thing? Lorne: I haven't read the Book of Revelations lately, but if I was searching for adjectives, I'd probably start there.

Oh maaaaaan. I decided I wanted brownies. And I misread the recipe and made the cake like version rather than the fudgy version! Nooooooo!!! Curses!

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I find ice cream to be an effective cover for a variety of brownie sins

I made brownies in part because I didn’t have ice cream!

Guess tomorrow I go get ice cream and more brownie fixings both!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

When I started working again yesterday after three days off, I regretted ever taking the time at all. But now it's already Friday! So I feel like I can make it through today. And maybe even get through everything that came in while I was out...

Our wings are not tired.

I'm working. Training people and doing the usual stuff. DH has gone to Key West with his sister and her friends. This is a very good thing. He has been working non-stop long hours every day for months. I made him go. I did suggest to him that he let his sister drive so he can relax more. She drives a city bus in Manhattan, so she can handle a Ford truck in Key West.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

yay for all the vaccines!

Today is my day off and am trying to get myself to drive out to Las Trampas Wilderness and do a long hike. I miss hiking with other people, sigh.

Our HR system is so fubar, y'all. I was offered my boss' job over Christmas; my boss retired on Dec 31; my coworker W was interim branch chief until Feb 14, at which point I took over as "interim"; I was told my official start date was March 15; I show up to HR on March 15 and nobody is there; I sign some papers digitally instead; I got a call last week saying they still haven't processed my pay bump which should have started on Feb 14; and yesterday my current boss said (in passing) that apparently my "new" start date is Feb 28 because HR still hasn't processed the official promotion. So I'm actually still in interim status.

Oh, and yesterday they posted the announcement to fill my old job, but didn't make the one change I asked for, which was to state that the position was telework eligible. So now everyone who sees it is gonna think it's not telework eligible, and won't apply.

Your federal government at work, folks. ::facepalm::

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

That is a travesty, Consuela.

Normal work day for me today, which is mostly tracking incoming inventory at the moment and being glad our stuff just crosses the Pacific, although that is slow enough even without extraordinary canal blockages. I feel like there is an easy "I ship it" joke to be made about the Suez Canal but I can't quite find it.

Now that I have matzo I feel like Passover is all sorted, but I kind of want to make a stab at something resembling a seder. I'm thinking of ordering Indian food tomorrow, a lamb dish with rice and chutney, and brunch today because that seems like the easiest way to get a bottle of wine. Silly, but too silly to go ahead and do?

You've got friends to have good times with. When you need to share the trauma of a badly-written book with someone, that's when you go to family.

Suela, that sounds much like our mutual friend S.'s tales of the Washington state government. I'm sorry that it's such a cluster.

I am disappointed in the developers of the final section of my current neighborhood - the One Planet Living requirements for a development certified under their standards include that some units be offered at the local price for affordable housing. Yesterday they confirmed that the new homes will all be offered at market prices for the island, which at the moment are running at a median of $1.3 million. The only affordable units in the entire block are the cluster of 12 apartments at the northwest corner, between 500-900 square feet; the condos, townhouses and freestanding homes are at least 1400.

One of my neighbors is a retired attorney and sits on the city housing board; I expect her to raise a stink and will give her what help I can. But given the makeup of the current planning commission and city council, it's likely they'll be breaking ground on that last parcel in the fall.
