Phew, you guys, it's been a day.
So my manager S - who I talked to like two, three times a year the past couple of years - was apparently failing on the job for a while. Just before xmas someone called his manager J to say it seemed like he was struggling on a project. When the manager reached out to him he basically said "you should probably go ahead and fire me now". And then a lot started coming out about how very much he was just not doing.
Some backstory: Steve was the national lead for our proposal teams. We both used to lead a regional team and I'm fairly sure I was maneuvered out of the way when they decided to create the national leadership role several years ago. (It took me a loong time to get over my anger about the white male mediocrity of it all, and honestly I was pretty checked out for a while myself.)
This time, it was a competitive process with both internal and external candidates, and it feels pretty good to come out on top. It's different leadership too, and an expanded role. Now I gotta really step up my game. (Not least because I'll have three direct reports who also applied for the position. Eep)

So, my phone shut down sometime in the night and won't turn on and I presume it's that my one and only charging cable went bad but the reason I am telling you this is so you can understand how very silly I am for carrying around my phone and the cable all day long just in case it will suddenly decide to start working again. I did figure out how to set an alarm on my Kindle for tomorrow morning, though, so that's something.

I am occasionally (ok, rarely) here. But I finally have a manageable work schedule so I am hoping to stop by more often, or at least in more places than Movies. In any case, timelies everyone!

Thank you for answering this question for me! I just proofed something for em and had to go back to my Christmas card to make sure I hadn't been missing this for years or something. (Which, let's face it, is very possible.) Most of our communication is by phone so it hasn't come up I guess? This is one of the downsides to not being on FB I suppose.

I can't believe I did not know this. I mean, I can, but I'm still surprised. I had no clue. Now I want to get out my yearbook. (D and I were in the same freshman dorm. D & S met at a party in my first place in NY and then that is how I met msbelle's brother, and, eventually, msbelle. She's the one that told me about TT I think. And then we went to the very first NY f2f together so we could have each other's backs in case one of you all was an axe murderer.)

Yes, that is what I meant. I was there, goddammit. Martha might have been with us too? I was on the board, but I only lurked on TT until it was time to leave and then I think I made one post just because. By that time, many NYistas were hanging out regularly.

Also, congrats to Brenda on the job news as well as everyone who is getting vaccinated or making appointments! I can't wait to get mine but I'm also not looking forward to the nightmare that making an appointment seems to be.
