I was in NY and Kate P was in New England when I became good friends with a good meatspace friend of her's in NJ.

we both work in theatre, and it is a small world.

Theatre is always ready to remind us of just how small the world can be. It's rare that I want into a theatre at this point and don't find someone I know in some fashion.

Got my 2nd Covid shot. All the vaccination spots were manned by Firefighters today. Mine was super cute too. Last time it was a bunch of nurses. It is a county site so they must alternate different crews. Anyway, sore arm, but relieved to have that part behind me. I know it isn't time yet, but I am so ready to go back to being my huggy self. Oh well. Soon.

Phew, you guys, it's been a day.

So my manager S - who I talked to like two, three times a year the past couple of years - was apparently failing on the job for a while. Just before xmas someone called his manager J to say it seemed like he was struggling on a project. When the manager reached out to him he basically said "you should probably go ahead and fire me now". And then a lot started coming out about how very much he was just not doing.

Some backstory: Steve was the national lead for our proposal teams. We both used to lead a regional team and I'm fairly sure I was maneuvered out of the way when they decided to create the national leadership role several years ago. (It took me a loong time to get over my anger about the white male mediocrity of it all, and honestly I was pretty checked out for a while myself.)

This time, it was a competitive process with both internal and external candidates, and it feels pretty good to come out on top. It's different leadership too, and an expanded role. Now I gotta really step up my game. (Not least because I'll have three direct reports who also applied for the position. Eep)
