My family has always used ginger ale to settle upset stomachs, and I've found that crystalized ginger from Whole Foods has much the same effect for me.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

What is even happening?

I have never used ginger beyond ground ginger in recipes, or bottled ginger ale. Matt, do you make a tea with the ginger, or eat it, or what? I ask, because I'm pretty sure my s-i-l and nephew wouldn't know, either.

I've just eaten the crystalized version like candy. I've not used the fresh stuff for nausea (just for palate cleansing after sushi), but I bet eating that would do as well.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Trader Joe's has some ginger chews that are very nice.

You've got friends to have good times with. When you need to share the trauma of a badly-written book with someone, that's when you go to family.

Cindy, I've found this tea really helpful for nausea; there are plenty of decent recipes for homemade ginger tea out there, but if no one has the energy . . . .

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I wholeheartedly second the ginger chews for nausea. (I've used them, I mean, and they work like magic.) There's also ginger tea. And ginger ales are kind of sticky sweet and not ginger-y enough for me, but Reed's extra ginger beer (not alcoholic) is very nicely ginger-y.

Thank you, amyparker and Teppy. I remember ita talking about ginger beer.

Hec, thank you. I'm trying to keep it to things I can ship to my nephew. His whole household works outside the home, and they haven't been that Covid-careful. (I hope his oncologist drills it into their heads that they have to be, and that they can/do get vaccinated.)

Edit: thank you Matt, too. The posts aren't loading right for me, today, even when I refresh or reload.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

You can slice fresh ginger and boil it in water make tea, but definitely order things for other people that they don't have to do any work for. Best thoughts to your nephew, Cindy.

BUT, she went back to work at the hospital for her healthcare coverage

That should be a crime. This fucking country.
