The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

How about www.edmunds.com ?

The last time I was playing around there, IIRC it gave me a price for "private sale" and a price for "trade-in."

eta: FWIW, I just tried my car details at edmunds.com and their private sale number was pretty close to the offer they relayed from Carmax.

Our wings are not tired

I am in a bit of denial about the fact that I have a 6am flight to Miami tomorrow morning, and then I'm driving from there to St. Louis by Sunday. I'm happy to do it, and it's the right thing to do for Bill's dog Sunny, but it was not at all what I thought this weekend would look like.

Wish me easy flights on both ends, and a clear highway in between.

Happy travels, Shir!

selling my old Ranger

What year? I’m not in the market or anything. It’s just that I learned to drive stick in my dad’s 1983 Ranger. That thing lasted into the 2000s, and it was still running when Dad sold it for a few hundred bucks to be someone’s farm truck.

ND, will your route take you through Nashville? If so, and if you think that might be a good spot to take a little break, let me know! If the timing works out, it would be nice to see you, but no worries if you feel like you'd rather just push on through.

I will be skirting by Nashville. I'm actually spending Saturday night in Chattanooga. Not sure what my schedule will be like, and I will have a nervous dog in my care, so I won't have a lot of flexibility.

Safe travels, ND!!

Thanks for the rec, PM! I’ll keep it in mind. For the moment staving off the desire for fear I would look weird.

My truck is a 1997. Runs a little rough, but still going (except for right now when, according to the AAA guy, it needs a new alternator). I love my truck, but I've been driving the CRV my mom left for the last 7 years so I've had to get it jumped countless times because I just don't drive enough to keep 2 vehicles going. I'd love to hang onto it for sentimental reasons, but insuring it, registering it, etc., my practical side is finally starting to win the argument.

Oh, no doubt. I wouldn’t have kept Dad’s truck for similar reasons. The Ranger is a nice small truck, and it’s hard to find anything that isn’t a behemoth these days, so I expect you’ll find a buyer easily enough.

Smooth travels, ND!
