Y'all see the man hanging out of the spaceship with the really big gun? Now I'm not saying you weren't easy to find. It was kinda out of our way, and he didn't want to come in the first place. Man's lookin' to kill some folk. So really it's his will y'all should worry about thwarting.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Oh no Tep, poor Tim. Fingers crossed for a mild case that stays mild. Fuck those maskless co-workers.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh no, Steph! Fingers crossed for both of you guys. Brutal.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I hope Tim’s COVID continues to be mild, Steph.

All my insurance and other money things are set up with my sister’s info if anything happens to me. The financial stuff, including the car title, is all in one clearly designed spot in the apartment. Aside from my car, I don’t really own property beyond household goods. My sister’s onboard with taking the cats. At 53 perhaps there should be more to deal with. On the other hand, traveling light will be convenient all around when the time comes.

Glad you found the wallet, David.

Hil, I’m sorry your aunt and uncle are going through that.

In totally other news, I’m trying to think of what I want to do with my hair post-COVID. The pixie has long since grown out, and my bangs are effectively gone for the first time in decades. I’m not sure if I want them back. My go to is a Phryne Fisher bob. A bob would be easy at the current, chin length state. Maybe I’ll poke around hair sites for ideas this afternoon. I’ll have a 2-3 months to think about it anyway.

move out and draw fire

The 40+ hours of homework is Mal sitting down and (mostly) diligently working through it. It's just a lot. Virginia is an SOL/teach-to-the-test state and they have to get through a set amount of curriculum in the year...but of course you can't cover as much in an hour online as you can in an hour in person, so the teachers moved the rest to homework (not having any real choice, because [see previous rant about lack of system support]).

Around the end of the first quarter every teacher, prinicpal, school board member, and the superintendent was getting flooded with complaints, so they have ratcheted it down, for the most part, but it's still a lot.

On a related topic, I continue to conduct ethnographic interviews with everyone involved in public education to try and figure out where the biggest-impact changes are. I've learned that 75% of the teachers at our local high school do not live in the area, because they can't afford it. 50% of them don't live in Northern VA, but in rural VA, West Virginia, or Maryland. One of them lives in Delaware.

This is part of why they want online school to continue, and I totally get it. It's also another sign of how the system is broken.

Our wings are not tired.

Oh, Teppy! Sending lots of ~ma for minimal symptoms, quick recovery for Tim, and negative results for you.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

My sister can get into my phone but beyond that I need to do better on this. My dad has a sheet with dozens of passwords recorded, and he had me added directly to his checking and savings accounts last year.

I definitely need to get my passwords written down somewhere my mother can find them in case of emergency.. Luckily, I know all of hers already.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

I'm sorry, Steph. Hope Tim's case is mild.

Did not sleep well last night. Woke up several times for no reason(either that, or I dreamed I woke up a lot and looked at the clock, in which case-what the hell, brain?). Also Mr. S has been whiny a lot today, and has had a few meltdowns. sigh...

Can I just note how crazy viruses are? My uncle ended up in the hospital last week with Influenza B, and I don't know how the hell he caught it, not doing anything, and I really don't know how his wife and son didn't also get it!

Speaking from experience, make sure that you're STILL on your parent's accounts. My mom moved her accounts to a different branch of her bank and in the process I was dropped from her accounts. Had to get the lawyer involved to get access to her safe deposit box to get at an official copy of her will. Which took more time and yet another trip home at a time I was already stressed out.
