I am back home and safe and dry and on the way to getting warm (it was 53F in the house when I walked in), and I have electricity and Internet. This has been entirely too much adventure for one week. Power went out Sunday afternoon around 3:30 and didn't come back until 9am this morning. Whee!
Glad to read this, babe. Power kind of goes out a lot here...kind of freaks me out. But I think it might be fun with you...sitting around reading fanfiction by flashlight.
.... or, something.
Glad you are home, Karl. I had local news coverage of the power outages your way this morning and wondered how you were doing.
Yeah, between 4400 and 5000 households up on our hill (I live just below Hwy 35 on the border between Daly City and Pacifica) lost power on Sunday. Most of them came back Tue morning, but some were later. Props to the PG&E crews working through the nights, but big boo to PG&E management, who have known for decades that the wires up here need to be underground.
Thanks for the thoughts, erika and -t. I'm glad to be back.
After a few hours, I start flipping out.
I don't think mine are major, but I do feel like they are getting worse. I keep trying to explain to my husband that we cannot rely on my short-term memory at the moment, but I used to have a really good memory, and I don't think he understands exactly how quickly information flies out of my brain at the moment.
Yes! I don’t have any coping mechanisms for not remembering anything, because I could always remember everything. And people are relying on me.
Twenty years ago my 50 year old boss told me about this and I did not listen.

The number of times I say to myself, "I was not nearly sympathetic enough to my mother," (on this and many other topics) is embarrassing and shame-inducing.
There were many contributors to my um, lapse in control (heh), but one of them was panicking over memory issues. The fact that I could not remember the names of DH's fellow platoon member's four children caused an absolute panic. I mean, I remembered everything, that's what I did. The fact that those kids have kids who probably have kids of their own now didn't lessen the impact of not remembering their names--!
Thanks for checking in, Sophia. Glad you're home, Karl, and glad that your power is back. I'm excited for you about your trip, Shir.
msbelle I'm so sorry about Miley.
I just read the source page on futless--that and Laura's "weather be wack all over" has me giggling.
Things here are pretty okay. We had three days of gale force wind and rain, and several more days of steady rain. As usual PNW spring is sodden, slippy ground. I just hope the water table hangs onto enough to ward off fires this summer.
ETA: Power outs are always inconvenient, no matter how well you plan the backups. I get used to those pretty quickly. But what really gives me the wig is when I open the fridge and *the light doesn't go on!* Something is really wrong with the world when the fridge light doesn't go on when you open the door!
