The power has been out on our hill in Daly City since Sunday afternoon at 3:30ish -- about 4500 households affected. I braved the first night without power (the same thing happened in January 2023) but when the estimate for return flipped from 8pm last night to 4pm this afternoon, I decided I was done with camping out, and BARTed over to stay with friends in the East Bay. So I woke up this morning warm enough and with my devices charged.
The adventure continues! Further updates as events warrant.
It's been chilly and windy here. It's super weird to feel the wall flex behind you in the wind (single-thickness tongue-in-groove).
4 year olds, man. We had a bit of a meltdown (mostly just crying) because I counted... Trying to measure how long he swished his mouthwash and if we were getting closer to 1 minute.
I've been tempted by the John Fetterman Body Double t-shirt.
I don’t know why but I’m having a hard time keeping track of what day of the week it is. I was 100% thinking today was Wednesday and about to text a friend to confirm we are doing trivia, when I read here and remembered it’s Tuesday. Good grief.
This is a problem I usually have, but today I am getting wrong what week it is. All day long we have been talking about "the second Tuesday of the month" and "week 2" and I've been thinking that's, like, now. It is not.
We had some high winds and flood warnings by me but I the only road closure notices I've seen have been accident related rather than weather. Or maybe accidents caused by weather, who knows? Anyway, it looks like the worst is past for my area and I am fine.
Stay safe LAistas!
I tested out using our internal AI Assistant (basically ChatGPT but approved for company use) to write a difficult and awkward email (following up on an interview to ask if I got the job or are they still deciding, basically) and OMG, game-changer. DON'T use AI to plagiarize art, DO use AI to write your terrible corporate bullshit.
Went to the library to print out some stuff, and the woman sitting next to me was squinting at the screen and peering over her glasses and getting her face real close to the monitor. I said, "Ma'am, you can make that bigger if you need to," and she said, "Oh, thank you, but I'm not trying to read it."
I can imagine myself doing that. I can't think of a reason to do it, but I can see finding myself doing it.
I heard Werewolves of London the other day so I'm having a big dish of beef chow mein for lunch. My hair, however, is not perfect.
So far we are doing okay here in the canyon. There have been some slides farther up, but the roads are all still open and passable.
I’m sorry, msbelle.
I’m glad the California coast cohort is doing ok.
