"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

We've got a hummingbird trapped in the house.

I tried to use a broom to shush it towards the open window but that just made it flee in high speed terror.

So now I've opened several windows and closed several doors and hope the beautiful dimwit figures it out.

Our wings are not tired.

I was basically gasping as I inhaled? And I think that freaked me out and made it worse?

No good, and yes there is a serious panic response to breathing issues. Maybe join a yoga class since they focus on breathing. Or even Tai Chi.

On my kid frustration, I also had DH crying saying how much of a failure he was because his sons are both jerks. There seems to be no way I can convince him that he was the best father I could have ever hoped for, who gave unconditional love and support to the boys. Seriously, never was anything but wonderful with them. It isn't his fault! Millions of great parents have jerks for kids. I just can't seem to make him not consider it his fault. (My mom was the same way, but we were only jerks as teens and grew out of it. Then for the rest of her life we teased her that everything was her fault.)

Maybe put some sugar water near an open window?

Oh no! We had a little goldfinch in the house once that my neighbor managed to get out the patio doors. He was great with animals. My big fear was the cats! I hope she decides that it is nicer outdoors.

Poor hummingbird!!

Laura I’m still agog at the idea that your son is 31!! But does seem unfortunate that he’s not able to anticipate the consequences of his actions

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

C'mon, hummingbird, figure out how to escape! I had that happen once and leaving the doors open worked but it was nerve wracking until he flew away (although I don't think the cats actually knew there was a bird in the house, I was very worried about them chasing him)

{{meara}} that sounds awful! I assume you are consulting your doctor? Maybe they would know what that was and what to do about it.

I’m debating consulting the doctor. Definitely if it happens again? I’m going out of town for the next week so wouldn’t be able to do much til I got back anyway.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I left the house for an hour with the windows open and without me there to scare it up by the ceiling the hummingbird found its way out. Fly free you pretty thing.

Phew! Good job, humming bird. I rescued a bird from our college dorm hallway once. It was epic and involved a bed sheet. Poor thing was so scared.

That makes sense, hummingbirds are totally into gaining height both to flee and to attack. Doesn't work so well indoors, though. Glad leaving it alone worked!

I don't think my brain is fully engaged today, but I am sputtering through the workday nonetheless. One more meeting and I can turn on my fan (I can't hear what anyone says over the fan. I guess I could wear headphones, but that would require going an getting my headphones from wherever they are so that's not going to happen.

I hope that was just a one time fluke that doesn't mean anything bad and will just be this weird thing that happened, meara.
