Chilly here this morning. Went down to 40 last night. Hooking up the heating unit has risen on the todo list.
I am sitting in my backyard patio swing with a lap blanket and it is HEAVEN. Yesterday I was out here for about three minutes before I had to go inside where the AC was. There is also an extremely round and fat sparrow at the birdfeeder and its birbness is very pleasing to me.
Happy birthday Nora!
Matilda's ex is a shithead.
I am in my Summer Sweater and loving it!
Loving even more, I had an Onerous Task to do today, and it took literally five minutes (unless I screwed something up and they'll be coming back to me to fix it).
I tell you what, the aftermath of a death is a whopping long list of Onerous Tasks.
EM came over yesterday and helped me go through bills and paperwork and organize it, then made lists with me on (a) places that needed a death certificate (the bank, trust accounts, life insurance, pension...) and (b) autopays on Jacqueline's card that I have to switch to mine (PG&E, Home and Car Insurance, Cable, Streaming services).
Going through old stuff, though, I found JZ's original Passport when she was but a teen, but which carried through her college years abroad. Lots of Visa stamps.
Matilda came home and I fed her fancy ramen and if that didn't cheer her up, exactly, it warmed her.
I'm off to have Fancy Brunch with my friend Jes this morning, so I will be busting out the Wm. Blake shoes.
One side-effect I've noticed of Return To Office is that I'm finding it almost impossible to motivate myself to do any work on days when I'm home, other than attending meetings. I'm sure there are work things I could be doing right now in fact! But I'm not!
In bittersweet (mostly bitter) "I told you so" news, my old job at Comixology (which was permanently eliminated back in January) is now a new open role because apparently TPTB have realized that their original plan of "lay everyone off and then we'll get everything done in less time" was, in fact, incredibly stupid. I'm only sorry nobody reached out internally to offer it to me, because I would have LOVED the opportunity to respond with "are you fucking high."
Thanks for birthday wishes! It's the big 5-0. Which, for me, is both thought provoking and minute on the scale of things.
Thinking about Hec and Matilda daily. Also, why do teenage boys suck so hard? Emotional maturity of a blueberry scone is too much credit for that cretin.
Also, as someone who has been randomly Spovato-called by smonster, I highly recommend picking that call up if you get it.
I have bathroom remodeling envy, Jessica and SusanW! I have so much stuff I want to do in the house but then it's like... oh yeah, money.

When my memories brought up pictures from the 4-0 I was all OMG that was 10 years ago. I hope you are doing something very special for the milestone.
You were there for my 40th and 45th!
Happy birthday, Nora! 50 is pretty exciting!

Same! It really only hit when we went from 2 days in the office to 3, but whereas I used to be pretty gung ho to demonstrate that I was if anything more productive when WFH these days I am much more apt to think that even the things that I kinda might want to work on can wait until I'm back at my desk. Procrastinating starting on updating a spreadsheet right now!
Happy milestone, Nora! 50 is certainly a very round number and feels significant. It's a single roman numeral, that's a big deal! I V X L C all big deals!
