Oh Shir! Good to hear from you but sorry it’s such hard news!

This morning we woke up on our “luxury alpaca farm stay” and got to hang out with the alpacas. The weather was awful so we chose not to do the walk up and down the hills and paths which would’ve otherwise had a gorgeous view of the ocean. Then we drove to Wellington, went to the national museum (very cool, also free!), checked into the Airbnb, returned the rental car, went on a tour of parliament, and then decided to go to the “fan zone” downtown to see if the store was any good (no). While we were there my friend was like “something is happening, there’s too much security” and I hadn’t noticed anything (because American) but even though they weren’t keeping people away or metal detecting entry or anything, the prime ministers of New Zealand and Australia rocked up, took some photos, showed themselves exchanging jerseys, and had a ceremonial beer. So wild!

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Shir, lots of good thoughts headed your way.

I love all the new Trek included both animated series. I hope S2 of STProdigy ends up airing somewhere because ltc adored it.

I have a question for people with computer skills, how much would you charge someone to take a picture and add invitation to a party information under it? It’s going to be a digital invite if that makes a difference. Because a friend is refusing to let me pay her. So I’m going to have to get her a gift card or something of the sort.

Our wings are not tired.

Since this is a friend, and really for someone with the skill set a very easy task, I would say a minimal amount for a gift card. She would likely be uncomfortable with anything more. If you know something she would enjoy as a small gift, then even better. But yes, I would want to do something in return too.

eta: I do computer stuff for friends and family all the time and never expect to be compensated. Being told I am brilliant usually is quite adequate reward.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

So, the equivalent of a fancy coffee should be fine. It’s an easy task for someone with the skills, and just wanting to give a tangible thanks would be nice.

In other news, the first 90 minute keynote presentation is actually 2 full hours. FML.

Very sad news.

Thrive to spite them

Oh I hadn't known about Sinead until I saw msbelle's post. I went looking at the news and... I really hate NPR's article about her death.

I have started watching Star Trek Strange New Worlds, I had started but then got hooked into Lower Decks and got distracted. Unfortunately I realized after the fourth episode (the Gorn attacks episode) I need to be really careful about watching it because too many flashing lights. I didn't stop watching it and I'm paying for it with a mild headache and feeling nauseous. Stupid light sensitivity

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

We have just arrived home. It was a good trip, for the most part.

Sunday was the end of the convention. The filk part of the con was well done, the rest was less so. Monday we went to the zoo which was nice, then we had dinner with local filkers friends. Tuesday we went to the Canada Museum of Human Rights and the Manitoba Museum. Lots of walking.

Now it's back to reality...
