Ugh. I never thought "at least it's a dry smoke-filled air" would be a relevant addition to my weather-related small talk

Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Less smoky here than earlier in the week but oppressively yuck nonetheless.
I saw Indigo Girls at Ravinia last summer and was kind of sad to be mostly unmoved. I enjoyed it but wasn’t really feeling the magic.
Didn’t help I suppose that Ani Difranco opened. Never a favorite of mine but the plantation stuff and general white feminist turn she seems to have taken, feh.
I miiiight have foot dragged a little getting there so we missed most of her set. But you can’t prove it.
Hah Brenda—i was kind of annoyed at the friends I was with who were talking through the entire thing. Like, mostly that was fine (opener was Nemo Case and I don’t know her music) and a few of the songs I didn’t know from IG’s more recent album, but they were like yelling across me about thanksgiving (?!?) during Galileo and I was like could we maybe listen to the music for a hot sec? Really probably not worth $70 especially with the short set length but ah well.
Sending loads of empathy to the bad-air folks. California has been there, and it's awful.
I'm in the middle of my first full day of retirement and so far it's nice. I'm reading Robert Jones's The Prophets and undelightfully tearing my hair out over SCOTUS (but now at least I have time to look at what can be done to push back and then do it) and vicariously revisiting Greece through the LAistas' FB posts. I have $500 in farewell-gift bookstore gift certificates, but I can't really use them until we can figure out where to put another bookshelf and then buy it. Book prices have gone up, but not so much that $500 worth isn't going to impinge on everything and everyone in the house.

Happy retirement!

What a perfect retirement gift!
The smoke is back. This time, accompanied by oppressive humidity. Do not like.
Now I know what it feels like to be a barbequed brisket.
the plantation stuff and general white feminist turn she seems to have taken, feh.
I haven't been following her closely in recent years, this is disappointing.
until we can figure out where to put another bookshelf
This is a good problem to have.

Well, ick. I was very fond of her back in the day and it was enough days back that I totally missed this. It sounds dreadful.

Same, that is a bummer.
Hooray retirement! And books to be bought!
I did not really believe the heat advisory notice my phone gave me earlier in the week and now I am sorry that I do not have a fan pointed right at me but it's a short enough time before the work day is done that my essential laziness will not let me rearrange everything when I can just wait and go lie down in front of the fan relatively soon. But it's pretty hot. I do have plenty of water to hand because I pretty much always do, not to worry.
You know, waiting to buy the books until you have a shelf for them is some amazing self control. Kudos!
