Oh, and a Mozzie update! In March we got the scan of his tumor, and the prognosis for treatment. I did not want to put him through the pretty awful process of radiation and its attendant side effects to scape out another month or two during which he would be constantly miserable. I knew at the time that meant we would likely have only weeks to a month until it reached crisis stage.
Well, it’s been nearly three months and he is so far utterly unchanged. Totally normal in spirits, behavior, activity. You wouldn’t know anything was wrong except for the big lump on his eyebrow where the tumor was breaking through (that hasn’t grown anymore either).
He’s gotten more vocal and demandy, but that might be more to do with the all-the-treats-all-the-time hospice protocols we went to thinking we only had a few weeks.
I know this could all change at any moment but I’m so grateful and amazed. It’s so much more than I expected.
That's wonderful, brenda! We did that with my Ladyjane. She was scheduled to be put under so we spoiled her like mad for the intervening time and when we went to the appointment the vet said keep on doing what you are doing. She was one happy doggo for quite a while.
In random high school related news, the local high school serving Otter Lake and surrounding areas put up their posters of the graduating seniors on the front lawn of the school in Old Forge, NY. 18 graduating seniors. The same size it was when my nephews went there. I think the largest class was 21. I can't imagine. The people I know who went there generally remained friends throughout life. Outside of my experience.
This caught my attention because yesterday a person who was in my senior class in 1972 sent a note via some high school connection site. I wrote back to her and confessed that I really couldn't place her name, because 50 years ago. I moved away when I was 19 and had no connection with any of my classmates. It sounded like she knew me so I hope she replies with more clues and context. Her high school picture didn't yield any memories, but she looks like we all did at that time.
That's great to hear, brenda!
18 seniors! So there are just 4 teachers in the high school or something? My grammar school class was three times that.
The school is K-12 so the teachers have to teach multiple levels. As in the Spanish teacher may have 5-6 classes. They have a hard time getting teachers for that reason.
Wow, that is wild to me.
Things may change - with all the pressure teachers are under, I would think teaching five or six classes - small classes, I'd guess - they might look on it as a relief.
But 5 or 6 different classes, so you have to prep that many lesson plans rather than being able to re-use, is rough.
Let's just say that the students don't have any trouble making the sports teams! They do have to work around practice schedules since the same kids are in all the sports (no football, but skiing). I looked at the website and they list 39 teachers, so 3 teachers per class level. 257 students pre-k to 12, or less than 7 students per teacher total. They work it out. As I say, not like my school years but the graduates seem to like it. My nephew never dated anyone he went to school with because he observed that it meant having to spend a whole lot of time with your ex if it didn't work out.
