Speaking of Banks and Star Wars, I've been reading a fanfic series where Obi-Wan leaves the Order to spend some time in the Culture, and then comes back to work with Anakin in the Clone Wars: [link]
Warning: It's a work-in-progress, and I'm gobbling up each installment as it appears, but the process is a little painful because I want more, more, more ....
It’s the same person. I’ve only read the Wasp Factory but thought it was fantastic.
I'm also a fan of Wasp Factory and his literary fiction.
I am just about to start rereading Lolly Willowes by Sylvia Townsend Warner, for book club
I love it. The Bindery had it on a shelf of Witchy books.
I just finished #14 of Deborah Crombie's Kincaid & James series. I've been enjoying them quite a lot. I do love series. Current read is Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler, which is different for me, and interesting so far. Current listen is Katherine by Anya Seton, which is my book club read for this month. For the most part I have hated the biographic picks they have had in the past, but I am enjoying this one. I tend to do the book club selections in audio since I listen in the car and it takes me a month to get through a book that way. My pick for them is next month so I am making them read The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix Harrow. I told them I just wanted a reason to read it again.
What are other folks reading? Including fic?
I'm about halfway through the Stariel series by AJ Lancaster. Sort of a pseudo-Edwardian UK with fairy lands, family conflict, magic, and figuring out how to get house repairs sorted. [link] Fic-wise I'm rereading the Accidental Warlord series by inexplicifics. There are some bits that annoy me, but the whole "highly competent people who want to do good things" trope is incredibly soothing.
After all the other shenanigans, our plane was delayed on the tarmac for an hour before takeoff last night and we got home at 11.
But we did get home. Unfortunately one week from today we'll be packing up to go back down again.
The good news is, JZ is pooping, and I'm discovering new places to eat in the neighborhood.
I hear there's a really good place nearby called Zazie. Have you tried it?
Glad you *finally* made it home! Jeesh.
the Stariel series by AJ Lancaster.
Ooh, I read that pretty much at random and liked it much more than I expected to (I kept seeing the cover/title of the first one and something about it put me off but I think I eventually had access to a copy for free so gave it a try. Once I got started I plowed through the whole series and enjoyed it muchly)
