Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Excited about Jes escaping the burning crater of Comixology, landing a new gig and getting London!
What? How is that possible?!
I bought a Manhattan at the bar. It was $26 (plus tip). So let's say that was $30 for one drink. Because it was.
The Minibar had a premixed Manhattan that cost $36 but it was three times as much drink. Also, I had requested a bucket of ice so I could fix it as I preferred, as the bar's Manhattan only had that One Big Cube of ice which really doesn't properly cool the drink.
So three drinks for $36 vs. one drink for $30.
We're slightly more than two hours away from being done with our Long Day At The Hospital.
JZ has finished one Pratchett book (Guards, Guards!) and swooped right into the next (Night Watch).
Sir Terry to the rescue. Fortunately with Borderland Books now in our neighborhood we could stock up on all kinds of Discworld recently.
I'm excited to get back to our room, order room service and use the fancy bathtub. While drinking the rest of my minibar cocktail. Woo.
Tomorrow Jacqueline can spend the whole day resting up. Sunday we get the chemo pump removed and fly back to SF.
Then we've got two weeks off before we're back again.
Yay for Pterry! That’s about the best reading material I can imagine for such a day.
I really thought hotel mini bars were the gold standard for marking stuff up. I guess my eyes have been opened now.
ETA: also yay for a day of rest! That’s excellent.
Also also, I need to at least get some matzoh this weekend. I don’t think I’m going to make any effort towards an actual Seder, but I can at least have my daily bread if affliction.

They are! But they gave a too generous portion of premixed cocktail
and
the hotel bar is insanely overpriced.
Okay, we're about an hour and fifteen minutes from being done. I mean...I personally feel done, but then we can leave.
Also, I found out there's a Walkway through the Beverly Center from our hotel to Cedars and that will make the walk home quicker and easier. Still can't find the Eggslut at the Beverly Center though.
Also, we resolved our potential issue with pump removal timing on Sunday interfering with our flight. But the later flight that I wasn't keen on taking proves to be a benefit in this case.
Good to hear that things are going well with Epic's surgery so far.
I saw the first bumblebee of the Spring! Letting clover, henbit, and dandelions grow freely in my yard (well, I'm clipping or uprooting the dandelion stalks once the flower's gone) seems to be working as planned to turn my property into a bee sanctuary. Tomorrow, I plant red creeping thyme seed where all the sewer work overturned the yard.
Speaking of, I found out the gas company is on the hook for a larger share than I'd dared hope. Not only do I not owe anything more, I'll be getting a refund of about half what I've paid already for the initial service call and deposit on the excavation work!
Good to hear that things are going well with Epic's surgery so far.
Very good news indeed.
I've been seeing bumblebees out and about on my runs at home.
Always cheering.
We are back at our hotel room and room service is ordered.
Now we don't have to do anything in particular for a day and a half.
I'm reading fic and watching the Iowa-South Carolina game. Caitlin Clark is amazing. It does really look a bit odd, though: Iowa is mostly white women, and SC is mostly ... not.
Thank you, msbelle. Glad that Epic is doing well in surgery. I appreciate the updates.
Goddamn, family in the room next door got into a physical altercation where the husband was slapping the wife around while their young daughter piped up.
Rattled the door between our rooms, and I could hear the raised voices. Wife wasn't crying or anything - she was used to it. He wasn't yelling - he was just used to pushing her around, slapping her, abusing her when he was peevish.
I called security. They're being messy up and down the hallway now, and the daughter's running up and down the hall excited like it's an adventure.
This is a posh hotel and this was a well dressed, rich family (I looked out the peephole).
