And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Today in exciting renovation news, the electrician was here installing the wiring for the exhaust fan and the new bathroom light fixtures. We had a light in our kitchen (remodeled by the same firm 5 years ago) that stopped turning on about a month ago, and I asked if he could take a look at it since he was in the house anyway.

So he takes the light out, and to test if it's the unit or something else he screws a bare bulb into the empty socket.

And all the other lights in the kitchen go out.

Which then led to him and the owner of the design firm (who had stopped by to pick up a check from me) spending about 45 minutes alternately saying (to each other) "What the hell...that is so WEIRD!" and (to me), "We can fix everything, don't worry about it" while they tried various configurations of removing the high hats and looking underneath them for...I'm going to say... wires? Not wiring properly and should be wiring better?

(They did eventually figure out what was causing the short in addition to the bad light unit, and now all 6 recessed lights turn on when you flip the switch. But it was a more exciting afternoon of "Will I have lights in this room ever again?" than I had initially planned on.)

It's full of things labelled EAT ME, Jess. Very dangerous.

I had delicious GF mini apple pies delivered (basically, for me, though I shared) at Friendsgiving. From a placein Michigan we knew about from Matt's previous companys. Godbelly is magical. Now I want the pies... also, I've never had Grater's, just sayin'.

Ooh, exciting electrical mysteries. Glad they were solved, Jess.

Well, I did another rapid Covid test, and this one was positive. Crap.

I'm going to call Urgent Care in the morning and see what they say. It looks like I'm not eligible for the test-to-treat locations where a pharmacist prescribes it, because I'm on cholesterol medication, and there's not really a good way to reach my doctor on weekends (plus I haven't been in for my physical in a while, so I don't have the blood tests on file that the test-to-treat places need.)

Crap, Hil, I am so sorry. I hope it is mild and short.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Oh no, Hil! I hope Urgent Care comes through for you and you're able to get Paxlovid.

Not-so-good part of surgical recovery: When you have a breast reduction, it's not unusual to get blood blisters around your underboob incisions sites. If you do NOT get such blisters, you'll probably stop oozing within 2-3 weeks. If you DO get the blisters, you can at least double that time! Guess which group I'm in? (I saw the doctor today, and he reassured me that everything is healing normally, no sign of infection, etc.; I just need to be patient since I'm in the unlucky cohort.)

Good part of surgical recovery: Before the surgery I could pretty much never wear dresses, because anything that fit in the chest was going to hang like a potato sack on the rest of my body. While I'm still pretty much living in pajama pants and t-shirts, I do have some dressy occasions coming up in the next few months, so I went ahead and ordered some dresses Facebook kept showing me. Specifically, this one and this one. And they fit! And are quite cute if I do say so myself! AND they have pockets!

I’m sorry, Hil. I hope it’s short and mild.

Those dresses look fun, Susan! I hope you’re healed up and can wear them soon.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I’m sorry Hil. I hope you get good treatment options.

Cute dresses with pockets, hooray!

I contacted the person covering for my doctor over the weekend, and got a Paxlovid prescription. Still not feeling great, but not really awful either. People are covering my classes on Monday, and I'll see how I'm feeling on Tuesday to decide what will happen on Wednesday (because new policy is just quarantining for five days, then do a rapid test, and if that's negative and no fever for 24 hours, then can go back, with a mask for the next five days.) Based on how I'm feeling now, I don't think I'll be ready to go back on Wednesday, but I'll see.
