Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I totally watched the Super Bowl. And was happy with the results. Even loved halftime.
Likewise! Although I was paying more attention to the rigging of those platforms and looking for fall arrest tethers than I was to the halftime performance itself.
I watched the Super Bowl and would have preferred an Eagles win, but wasn't that invested in either team. I enjoyed the game more than the halftime show. I may have been tired and grumpy from driving across the state, but I thought the choreography looked like basic calisthenics and hated the costumes. The floating platforms were pretty cool. I'm not really a big Rihanna fan either so that didn't help.
In less grumpy news, I stayed at my sister's Saturday night and between that evening and Sunday morning, we watched a season and a half of The Good Place because she had never seen it. There was much laughter. Saw my brother and his family Saturday afternoon and that was a good visit.
Nearly anywhere else in the world we could have called him some help without it ruining his financial situation.
It is the worst to have to make those decisions. I really hope his son was able to get him help.
Jeez Consuela that’s scary, I really hope the dude is ok. Damn. Healthcare is so fucked up—my one ambulance ride was hugely expensive and I have decent healthcare, so can’t blame anyone who is trying to avoid that, I will sure not take one unless I’m actively dying, in the future.
Heavy fog this morning but it's already dissipated.
There aren't enough girls to field a softball team this year. And the boy's baseball team was also very thin. So the captain of the baseball team personally asked Matilda to join.
She was waffling about doing any sports at all but talked to the coach, and one other girl from the softball team will also join to bring the boy's squad up to 11.
Matilda had been thinking about the baseball team for a while and had started playing catch - first with the boys at school, and then with Emmett - to get used to throwing a baseball after years of softball.
So we went out on Sunday afternoon and threw it around out on the Panhandle, and you know what?
She's good! My dad and her Papou would've been thrilled to see her out there popping my mitt. Her throws were accurate, had zip, and good rotation on them. First batting practice on Wednesday.

That's very exciting!
$75 for six pills. I said yeah, I haven’t hit my deductible just yet and that’s fine. But how much would the other three pills be with cash? He looked….and said if I wanted to pay cash all NINE pills would be $30
How is that possible? I mean, I know it's because we are not living in a well ordered society, but damn, that is stark. See also guy Consuela met, yikes. Vague good wishes towards him, wherever he is.
Mathilda playing baseball makes me happy. I hope it's a good experience for her.
Did not end up watching the super bowl at all, not even half time. Just couldn't be bothered. Had a great day being out in the world on Saturday but was peopled out on Sunday to the point that people on a TV screen would be too much, I guess.

We always go to my mom and stepdad's for the Super Bowl, even though I never care about who's playing (unless it's the Bengals, which is vanishingly rare, last year notwithstanding). It's pretty much an excuse to eat chili and various snacks. I brought brownies and my aunt brought cheesecake, and so we all discovered that cheesecake on a brownie is REALLY good.
Ooh. I have seen things labeled Cheesecake Brownies although I don't know what that means in a practical sense. I was thinking about watching with my folks but they weren't sure if they were going to bother either and I was kind of surprised by how late in the day it starts. I get used to football being a morning/mid-day thing all season with evening games being a sort of rarity, I couldn't adjust (even after barely watching at all during the season)
I used to throw a Super Bowl party but didn’t even consider it this year. Which I was sad about but maybe next year?

Yes -- when we first started SuperBowling, probably two decades ago, we'd start our bowling games when the Superbowl started, but this year (2019 was the last year I did it; they did do a 2020, but I was in the hospital) -- I was like, uh, start bowling at 6p on a Sunday and THEN go out for dinner? What am I, under 40 or something? No thanks.
So we started at 3p-ish, bowled two games, and were sitting down to dinner by 5:30p. Much more civilized. (We also used to bowl three games. Not anymore!)
