Could just be a hoax, though. I fake some headaches, everyone gets used to poor helpless Spike. Then one day, no warning, I snap a spine, bend a head back, drain 'em dry. Brilliant.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I was just awakened from a dream where I had been stood up for a blind date at a movie but went to see the movie anyway

I've been having stress dreams almost every night. And they all involve travel. Usually trying to catch a flight and there's some issue getting to the airport, or paying for it, or I missed a connection, or the bus takes the wrong route.

So many of them wind up with me at a counter trying to pay for something and the card is rejected, or I'm pulling out nothing but receipts from my wallet.

And it's weird because (a) we've got money now; and (b) I'm not going anywhere.

In fact, I've barely been out of San Francisco for the last three years.

And by "out of San Francisco" I mean Berkeley and Oakland.

The last time I left the Bay Area was Fall of 2019.

Yeah. I went to Colorado in the summer of 2020, but other than that I have only traveled for work. In two weeks I'm doing a 3-day hike in the Marin Headlands, but that's it for actual travel plans right now.

Sleep deep and well.

Thank you! I did.

Dreams do find weird, repetitive ruts, don't they? Especially the stress ones, which, understandable that you're having, of course.

Counter to that, my last one before waking was basically an elaborate Emmy opening number - in some gigantic, multi-level mall-like place with a huge, open-atrium bar - starrring Tom Holland singing and dancing his way through a dream-hilarious tale about working next to the Lord of the Rings cast (when he would've been a toddler at best, but, hey, dream time is bullshit) and by the end, he had morphed into Tobey Maguire. I did read a Spider-Man meme with all of them yesterday, so...

Short version: I'm up and about to start working for an hour before the class. So, that worked.

Apparently if you're enough of a power nerd, there is nothing that cannot be flowcharted.

That is an AWESOME dream!

Man, I forgot how good multi-grain Cheerios are. Super tasty!

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Aw, a cereal post! I am delighted.

I love Cheerios. Yeah, it was a pretty damn delightful dream!

OK, morning swim exercise done, getting coffee on the way home, quick shower, then do the project that's due today. (The deadline for the final add to the website got pushed out by two weeks, but I REALLY want to be done with the copy, so I'm just going to pretend.)

In the end it's only ever been one step, and then the next.

I have dropped Jim at the ferry; he will be in Denver for a week. Which means I get the place to myself for a week, just enough time to miss him again at the end of it. Later today I will see Ken!

Nice, amyparker! Enjoy all.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

My dream last night featured Michael B. Jordan, so good, but also involved something where we were running around on Whidbey Island because someone was dumping oil or industrial waste or something and the ocean was turning all black and tarry around the shoreline, so bad. And also weird.

I do have a recurring dream I think of as Infinite Airport--basically you can never find your gate and the corridors keep twisting and multiplying.

Thank you for that, but plans have changed - Ken's been in an accident. He and Alex are both all right, but Rupert the Mini may have been totaled: Ken was picking Alex up at Sea-Tac and they were rear-ended by an uninsured driver.

Jim immediately asked if we needed him to cancel his trip, from the security line at said airport. He is such a good dad.

I am telling myself he is 35, isn't alone (Alex is a member of the Horde and a Marine, he's very familiar with concussions and is keeping a close eye on him), has insurance and isn't immediately injured. Staying calm and asking what he needs is correct action. Privately I am screaming in texts elsewhere.
