Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Will the GOP be this fractured when it comes to trying to pass bills?

I think they will be! I mean, if no one can whip the votes to become Speaker, they aren't going to be able to pass anything that anyone disagrees on at all.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Oh, sj, I'm sorry. That's a lot of good memories, and the promise of a respite and a haven for decades ahead, to suddenly lose.

~ma and comfort to your family, Sheryl. I can't imagine the emotional stress you've all been under, for years now.

I went back to work today, on a very reduced schedule and with very reduced responsibilities, which translated for today into sorting out how very much the folks who covered for me managed to NOT do while I was out, and how they managed to get 99% of what they *did* do wrong.

Mind, they all have strengths that I don't and if I had to cover for them--I literally couldn't. Absolutely couldn't. But the words-and-people-and-puzzles part of my brain is so confused. This is all names and patient histories and there's not even a little bit of math in any of it! How could they possibly have had any trouble with any of this? And yet, they have. All the trouble.

Anyhow, it's something useful to staff and families, and entirely outside my own brain, which is good and much needed, so maybe I should be glad for all the not-doing?

Our wings are not tired.

Oh dear, JZ. I hope they didn't muck it up too much.

ION, I clearly need to watch or attend more of our Ft. Lauderdale city council meetings. This one from a couple weeks ago. [link]

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I am enjoying watching the Republicans flail and fail.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I almost feel bad for how much I’m enjoying it. Almost.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I think they will be! I mean, if no one can whip the votes to become Speaker, they aren't going to be able to pass anything that anyone disagrees on at all.
I think you might be right.

Impressed that the Dems chose a path and are just not budging. That really hasn't been our strong suit.

I am enjoying watching the Republicans flail and fail.
Little bit of enjoyment here as well. While watching C-SPAN. Didn't see that coming on Nov 8.

Anyhow, it's something useful to staff and families, and entirely outside my own brain, which is good and much needed, so maybe I should be glad for all the not-doing?

Not glad necessarily but not really mad about it is probably emotionally healthy. Especially when you have specific skills to help people that others do not.

Plus they can’t even swear in the new House members or vote on anything else until they have a speaker. So nothing is getting done.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I'm sorry, sj.

I think they will be! I mean, if no one can whip the votes to become Speaker, they aren't going to be able to pass anything that anyone disagrees on at all.

I think if they pass anything, it'll be by bowing down to the extreme right members of their party. Which means whatever they pass will die in the Senate.

About the only thing likely to get done in the next two years is confirming judges, since I believe that's mostly a Senate thing.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

As David alluded to while back in the thread, in the last Congress there were 15 Special Elections to fill vacant seats, and the Dems only need to flip 5 or 6 of them to get a majority. And once George Santos gets kicked out and/or arrested, the Democrats are very likely to flip his seat. And the more incompetent the Republicans look, the easier it will be to flip several more seats.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Picking up from way back:

What I need is a tool that will suck the rigid inflexibility out of pharmacists.

I feel that, properly employed, the Uproot could still be the right tool for this job.
