Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
maybe I really am magically immune???
Here's hoping.
On Christmas Eve my grandmother (and all the neighbors in her wing) had to be evacuated from their apartments because of a burst sprinkler pipe. It sounds like her place got the worst of it. My uncle showed up to visit during the chaos and took her home with him. So she is clothed, fed, and cared for by family, but I'm sure she feels hopeless and helpless. She couldn't keep any food down that night.
I haven't heard any updates since then, but my uncle had been in contact with the building manager and I think my brother is going to call my uncle and see if he can get in to try to salvage photos and her genealogy files. We're concerned that any remediation company will just throw everything in a dumpster.
Not really that awful, but my water heater decided to quit, yesterday. When I showered after all the pre-event prep it seemed like I didn't have much hot water, but I figured maybe I had used more than I thought doing dishes and cleaning. Nope, when DH took his shower this morning it wasn't working. At least our water isn't really very cold. We have indoor functional showers at the beach club across the street, and at the gym, so not a disaster. We knew it was going to have to be replaced. Going tankless, which requires some electrical work to be done. It would be much worse if my water was actually cold. DH is going to try replacing the element first to see if that puts off the replacement for a bit.
The internet and cable here died on Christmas Eve and still isn't back.
Our furnace went out last night and the energy company won’t be out to look at it until Wednesday. Fortunately we have wall units for our AC that also do heat and our rowhome retains heat pretty well.
OMG, you guys! Hang in there!!
Holy heating issues, people! Good luck with all.
Happy Birthday, Jesse! No Covid presents for you, please.
Happy Birthday, Theo!
We are visiting with Matt's mom and then on the way back down to VA soonish. I am sooooooo sleepy. I already warned him he wouldn't have much conscious company on the drive home, sorry. He seems OK with that...
We had a lovely day yesterday, a yum dinner out, and then went to see Deep Blue Turquoise, the sequel. It wouldn't have been my choice, but it was fine. The theater chairs were comfy.
Actually, I went to the movie with the fam. Matt couldn't bring himself to join. Fair enough.
Happy Birthday to the Boxing Day babies!
I have today off as a fed, and other than walking the dog, I haven't done much. Need to get off my ass and run errands before the storm arrives. (There's a big storm coming into the Bay Area this afternoon, looks like massive rain and wind.)
Dinner at my brother's house with hot pot and homemade desserts, and then some karaoke. It's weird how much harder it is to sing with a mic in my hand than without. Everything is much more strained and I cannot hit my notes. Good thing I never went into music professionally!
Happy Birthday Jesse! I got COVID for my birthday, so I hope you do not.
Hippo Birdies, Theo!
Happy Birthday, Theodosia and Jesse!
I'm off work until Thursday and am trying to decide what to do with myself--tons of little things that need done, so a recipe for ADHD indecision if I'm not careful
aurelia, your poor grandmother! I hope things resolve quickly for her.
I’m on a train from Quebec City to Montreal, where we’ll spend a couple of days before going home on Wednesday. I’m pretty ready to go home, but not so ready that I won’t enjoy this final leg. So that’s all good.
Then I get my doggos back on Thursday. They’re with a friend who is boarding a bunch of dogs at her place way out in the burbs. All dogs she knows and at least partly to support the rescue she runs. So they couldn’t be in better hands.
