If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Just went for a dip in the rooftop pool! It’s a balmy 20 degrees (F) outside with light snow. Wonderfully contradictory sensations.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Holli now refers to herself as a fandom old on Tumblr, which I guess is technically accurate but still makes me feel dead.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I joined the Phoenix board in 2002, I think. I lurked for a while, jotting post numbers on scrap paper so I could find my place in threads before I realized the board would do that for me if I joined. I think NoiseDesign and I delurked the same evening while talking about it on AIM.

Thrive to spite them

So we had a partially thawed turkey this morning. and a huge one. It was put in the fridge from the freezer but it wasn't rotated around and I think the sides that were against the walls of the fridge stayed frozen.

You can cook a partially thawed (or frozen) turkey but it takes a long time. So we are hopefully in the last hour of the turkey cooking. I am honestly not sure what we are doing for sides, much like the way the rest of this holiday season has gone Christmas day had been relatively hapzard.

I also burned my hand on the edge of the lifeline and going toward my thumb . Vvery inconvenient.

It's weird because I don't remember when I started regularly posting on TT but I clearly remember where I was when I first heard about Table Talk -the paper had run a piece by Anne Lamott and it referenced Salon.com and from there I found Table Talk. I liked it because visually it was similar to another online forum I had been a part of and so it was better than a lot of the threaded forums that I found confusing.

That was amazoncity, which became herspace after amazon became a thing and then it dissolved with no real back up and everyone was kind of lost. Which is why I remember saying that we there needed to be a back up plan when it was announced TT was going to be closing.

Always Anti-fascist!

My mom has been struggling with an old tendon injury(she was, no joke, a hero to some stray kittens years ago and hurt herself...she's had some flare-ups before, but not like this.) It was hard for us here this morning...hopefully it will be better soon.

information libertarian

My sister came last night and gave Casper the gift/loan of a corset from Etsy and some chemises, a petticoat, and assless pantalettes she’d sewn, and Casper was in heaven. Which reminded me that sometimes I feel like I should ship Casper off to Holli for a couple of weeks so she can see the kind of person she could grow into (not into college, likes to make tiny precise things, currently wants to sew a kirtle).

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

We've been trying to keep Mr. S occupied today and it's been a struggle. At least some stuff will be open tomorrow.

The turkey seems to be done! And it looks good. So far all I've heard from M's mom is "at least it's not dry" as she has picked at it since we aren't ready to eat yet. And also suddenly close to the end of the whole cooking says "make sure you make enough for R" (a friend of hers she is going to take a plate to). There is plenty of food but maybe it's something she could have mentioned, I dunno, this morning.

Anyway right now we are waiting for the biscuits to finish (they are frozen ones) and green beans to be done. And for dessert I had a Apple Frangipane tart from Aldi I got a while back so I baked it last night and I'll just have to maybe warm it up today.

It hasn't really felt like Christmas at all this year for me or even Thanksgiving. I'm hoping next year it will feel more like it.
