"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Apropos of nothing, I keep getting Daniel Snyder and Zack Snyder confused.

For the record, Dee Snider is the lead singer of Twisted Sister.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

but I have to be a little bit careful because a 100 yr old funeral home is being demolished across the back alley and I don't think I want that dust drifting in if I can help it.

Mmmm, cadaverlicious!

In a sign of how toxic education has become, there’s a tenure track English teaching position open in a part of MI that I wouldn’t mind moving to, and I’m not sure if I want to bother applying. Sure, the listing says they value diversity, but I know I’d be one wrong assigned reading from having my home picketed by MAGA-morons. And it’s not like the pay would make up for it. I’m a disgrace to three generations of teachers, because I’m seriously weighing pros and cons instead of jumping at it.

Our wings are not tired.

That's very sad that you have to consider that possibility, Calli.

DH's team has a half day of school today so the boys will help him bring up my desk and table and more stuff from storage. Maybe he'll remember to grab the coffee filters!

DH's pancreatitis seems to have made a reappearance, so we cut our trip short and came back last night/early morning -- shared the flight with the friend we went down with last Friday.

It's not a horrible flare-up, but... abundance of caution. And he didn't have his pain meds with him. He's sleeping soundly now, so we'll see how he feels when he gets up.

We had such a great time with the friends we were visiting and packed a ton in. Yesterday afternoon through Saturday was just going to be DH and me at a lovely hotel on the beach -- sort of a coda to the trip -- so while disappointed, we'll deal.

Still have two full days of vacation plus the weekend, so I'm planning on a massage this morning and brunch somewhere fun to start!

Panama is lovely.

In light of the crazy stuff DeSantis does here in Florida my super blue county school board has banned "It's Perfectly Normal", which was a standard in the 90s for children. I got it for my boys. There is confusion and controversy over who actually initiated the ban and apparently it didn't go through the mandated reviews and such. Who knows, DeSantis fired a bunch of school board members and appointed replacements pending the election, so perhaps things will go back to normal after the election. Of course, he can always decide the elected members are evil and fire and replace again.

There is about zero chance that he will defeated in the election, but I can dream. The Dems totally blew it the last election cycle when they primaried the wrong person and gave the election to DeSantis. It was very close, but would have been a clear win had they chosen Gwen Graham (daughter of popular former Gov) instead of Gillum. So they ended up with DeSantis.

Oh, I'm sorry that your Panama trip was cut short! Enjoy the massage, and I do hope DH feels better when he awakes.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

For the record, Dee Snider is the lead singer of Twisted Sister.

Somehow, that does not confuse me!

Bummer about the shortened vacay and DH's pain, JenP. I hope being home helps him and your remaining time off is pleasant

I went and got gas at Costco for the first time and I feel like I have really accomplished something. Which is pretty silly, but Costco generally kind of overhwhelms and intimidates me and I have seen the lines being ridiculously long but my guess that they might be shorter on a weekday morning than a weekend afternoon seems to have been on the money. Anyway, awarding myself a merit badge or level up or whatever.

Less of an accomplishment - someone left a bag of Thomas brand Pumpkin Spice bagels in the break room and while I thought to myself that they are What's Wrong With Bagels also they were free and any excuse to use our toaster (we were not allowed toasters in Fairfield so it really does feel like a transgressive treat to toast anything in the office) so I tried one. I also poked around in the fridge and found an unlabeled cream cheese that I thought I might be able to filch a tablespoon or two out of without much guilt but when I opened it up it was all green and fuzzy so I tossed it and felt virtuous about that. Anyway, the actual toasted bagel tastes worse than I expected - so sweet, and neither pumpkiny nor spicy and really just ew.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

We had our parent/teacher conference with ltc’s teacher yesterday. Her teacher said she is a delight to have in class and her reading skills are off the chart good. She doesn’t have any behavioral problems in school, but she has become extraordinarily sensitive to peer criticism and teasing. So, we’re working on ways to help her cope with that. It was a half day. So, she spent the afternoon with her grandparents who also said she was well behaved. She then came home, immediately started whining about everything and had a major screaming meltdown about doing the usual routine things we do every night. TCG has had lots of evening meetings the last two weeks, which does not help with her evening behavior at all.

The punishment is inherent in the sin.

Sorry about the shortened trip, JenP. I hope your DH feels better soon.

I got the "nope" letter from the job I interviewed for last month. It was a stretch, so I'm not surprised. But it's still disappointing.

Punishingly Intricate

Sorry you had to cut your trip short, JenP, it sounded magical. Good for you for making the most of your remaining days off.

And, sorry about the job, Calli. I’ve had more than my fair share of job rejections this year and it sucks even if the job maybe wasn’t the best fit for you.
