Our wings are not tired.

Bunches of recovery ~ma for Tim. Does murderbiscuit snuggle with Tim? Also, note that chili made today will be super yummy tomorrow if you are restless and want to cook.

I've been trying to make recipes for more servings than needed and freezing the leftovers in individual servings. Working to a certain degree, but a couple issues. First, I plan on leaving in two weeks, so how many leftovers do I really need. Also, my freezer seems to be small.

In related food news, I made a cauliflower soup yesterday made with yogurt, cream cheese, some maple syrup and crumbled bacon on top. It was so very tasty!!

eta: today working with the fresh pumpkins I bought from a neighbor's stand. Making a pasta dish with pumpkin chunks, walnuts, and parmesan. And very foolishly attempting to roast the pumpkin seeds. In the past I declared it too much bother, but they seem to be releasing from the gunk fairly easily.

Not really, but I'm betting that when Tim gets home, Murderbiscuit won't budge from his lap.

I am the opposite of restless. I am so goddamn tired. Chili will be later this week, because I want to be sure Tim's stomach can handle it.

When Tim had his heart surgery, it turned out that the first week home he was very very uncomfortable sleeping in a bed, but at the hospital he had slept pretty well in the recliner in his hospital room. We do not have a recliner, and so he struggled through that first week after heart surgery back at home.

So earlier this week, I asked Tim "shit, should I go to Rent-A-Center and get a recliner?" Turns out that Tim's brother took a recliner when they were emptying out their parents' house over the last couple of months, and he was happy to lend it to us. He and nephew just brought it over, so we are pretty well set for Tim to come home tomorrow. Groceries are in (with lots of easy-to-make food, because I predict that I am going to hit the fucking wall and collapse once Tim's home), house is vacuumed and somewhat straightened up, recliner is in place, and lots of comfy pillows and blankets are at the ready. I just need to give the shower a good scrub. (Once again I need to register my annoyance that showers get dirty. All the dirt is supposed to go down the drain! Sheesh.)

The recliner should help. They are often more comfortable when you are ouchy. Nice that one was available.

For recliner-sleeping, a neck pillow that keeps your head from rolling to the side is also nice.

Tim actually got one of those with this hospital stay, so he'll be all set!

Fortunately it's on the smaller side, and not one of those big overstuffed recliners (which I love dearly), because we had no room in the living room for any size recliner, but we're making it work, and it's only temporary. The kitty has thoroughly inspected it and deemed it acceptable.

You are well prepped!

Agree re: showers.

Nice brunch with friends today. Matt and I both noted how uplifting it is to get out, hang with nice people, and walk around in pleasant weather, which seems like a no-brainer, but since we both work from home, we can go for long stretches without that kind of interaction.

Tomorrow I start back at the pool in the mornings (arm is practically normal again, and I'm over my cold). Swim lessons start later this month! I do need to get some sweats or something easy but warm to throw on when still damp-ish for the door-to-car leg of my mornings. And a knit cap, but I have some of those already.

Hope all are having nice and long weekends. We don't technically get IP day off, but I also don't work on Mondays... I mean, I do for myself; not for the W-2 job, though... so it will be a Monday like any other.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Matilda and I are dressed in dark clothing and going to the memorial at 4:30.

On Friday afternoon I walked over to the place where he killed himself in Golden Gate Park. Stood there and tried to imagine why he picked that spot. I could see where the police had raked up the area and washed it down with a hose.

It helped, though, in a way. I could see the logic of his mindset. I could see why he chose everything and it was to minimize harm. It was on a school day at midmorning so he wouldn't be discovered by some kid. There was a hill beside him so the bullet couldn't hit anybody else. A place where he'd be quickly spotted, but not a place where anybody would see it happen. He only had one bullet in the gun to make sure nobody stumbled on a loaded gun.

And seeing that carefulness and thoughtfulness helped me see the Depression Logic in his choice. I could see, I think, how he saw the situation. Like his family was in a boat, and he was this block of concrete in the water, attached to the boat by a chain, and he was dragging them down. He wanted to cut the chain to free them of his weight. The way depression distorts that perception. Makes you feel like nothing can change, and the bad feeling is unendurable, and that you are the problem for your family/friends.

It made me sad but it gave me space to forgive him. I hope his family can.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Sorry, that's a lot of heavy to unload.

In other news, Matilda went to Homecoming with Shriyans (her beau) at his old high school in Pleasanton last night. There was a most pit! She wore her fancy dress and Converse.

Also, after mulling it over and measuring twice I went back to the estate sale and bought the gorgeous Art Nouveau cabinet which they were unloading for only $225.

I wasn't looking for another cabinet, but years of thrift shopping have honed the criteria for when to make a buy: Is the price good? Okay, is the price insanely good? Do you love it? Will it have a place to go? Is it the right style? Does it fit? Is it something you can get elsewhere or is this the only chance you'll have for it?

It met all those criteria and so now we shuffle the furniture. Which we were going to do anyway.
